Shell workers pay threatened if they didn't attend Trump event - Business Insider
President Donald Trump has frequently accused protesters and activists of being paid by powerful liberal forces, but many the attendees at his own events were financially compensated to be there.

Despite his own disdain for supposedly paid protesters, Trump himself has benefited from people being paid to attend his events, both in his capacity as a political candidate and as president.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported that union contractors working for a natural gas plant owned by Shell were told they would not receive pay for the day if they didn't attend an official Trump speech at the plant.

In 2015, a sub-contractor hired by the Trump campaign to produce Trump's campaign rollout at Trump Tower put out a casting call to pay actors $50 for attending the event and holding signs.

Mariela Szwarcberg Daby, a political science professor at Reed College, told Insider that Trump's actions are a clear example of political clientelism, or promising political support, such as turning up for a rally or voting for a particular candidate, in exchange for particular goods or services.

While clientelism is a common practice in the Global South, it's extremely rare in the US.
Another case of projection, like him projecting his narcissism onto AOC.

That's extortion, not a hire.

There is a misunderstanding. Some one posted the letter for the Shell thing. People who attended received overtime.

Is he going to report what Shell spent on this as a campaign contribution?

This is unbelievable! Trump actually pays people?

The thread title is wrong, His Flatulence wasn't the one hiring them.
Yes, yes, it's his campaign, but that effectively is Trump. He or people he hired, or people hired by people he authorized to hire people.

Also, as tight as Der Trumpf is with what he considers HIS money, is there any chance he hired someone to hire someone to hire people to hire rallygoers and he is NOT aware of how money is being spent to prepare a venue?

would Shell have a reason to hire them if not at the behest of the campaign?

To make His Flatulence view Shell in a more favorable light.

That's highly doubtful. If Shell wants to be viewed favourably by Trump, they'd have rented out Trump Tower for one of their venues. Cheaper and far more effective. Either way, I think it is a difference without a distinction. Either Trump hired fake supporters, or he is fine for people doing it for him.

Why would he know they were fake supporters? He would just see the crowds and be happy.

But then he would not view Shell favorably. He'd just see crowds of adoring people and figure he's popular. The most popular president in memory, maybe ever. People are saying how popular he is.
If Shell is going to spend bucks on getting on Trump's Good Side, they would want him to know exactly how much they spent, which requires connivance with the campaign. And it would be more efficient to pay the money directly to Trump, anyway.

I thought it was Shell or union workers that simply were paid their normal wage to be there. This led to them qualifying for OT for Friday work.
