Walter Mondale was Jimmy Carter's Vice President, and he was an active one, almost being a co-president or a junior president.
WM ran for re-election alongside JC in 1980, and the two lost to Ronald Reagan and George Bush I.
WM ran for President against RR in 1984, but lost. During that run, RR attacked "the Carter-Mondale Administration", widely perceived as a failure.
WM had a female Vice Presidential candidate in 1984, Geraldine Ferraro, the first one in a major party. GF was followed by Sarah Palin, John McCain's VP in 2008, also defeated. But Kamala Harris has become the first female VP who won. I was very relieved when that happened, because if she lost, I'm concerned that female VP's might be perceived as jinxing a Presidential campaign.
