What is the state of carbon capture technology?

I have seen some sources claim that it's not a usable technology at this stage. Other sources claim that it can be done, it's just incredibly expensive. Which one is the case?

If the latter is the case, then that is a source of hope IMO. Expensive does not mean impossible.
