You have to be fucking kidding me. I voted for your stupid ass because I was sick of the Republican fear mongering.

From an email:
Republicans are now in charge of Congress, so I'm frankly stunned that they are putting our country at risk like this.

The Department of Homeland Security will run out of money this month unless Congress acts. But Republicans are irresponsibly playing politics with critical homeland security and counterterrorism resources by attaching controversial immigration policy riders to the funding bill.

In light of the threat of ISIS and recent events in Paris and elsewhere, the resources of our Homeland Security Department should NOT be tied to divisive political issues. For our safety, we have to keep this funding bill moving

I agree with you. We don't need more militaristic fear-mongering.

Is there a factual problem with her statement? Do you agree that attaching immigration riders to a Homeland security funding bill is appropriate?

I would argue that "in light of the threat of ISIS" we have plenty of funds already in the military budget and it should be cut more.

The first incorrect fact is the word "stunned".
You know for a fact she was not "stunned"?

She has been a politician for 15 years. If she is truthfully stunned she must have completely bumbled herself into the Senate. Before you say, "that is possible", I know enough about Missouri politics to know she is not stupid.

---EDIT---

I was off by 20 years. Wikipedia says he started back in '82. She popped up on my radar when she was elected as State Auditor ~2000.

What's up with attaching crap anyway? Can't we just create a bill that limits the scope of issues such that crap can't be attached?

Please. Maybe in Canada.

Actually, ya. I'm pretty sure it works that way up here in Canada.

Well, we could give the president a line item veto, which is fine if you like the gal who is president.

One would not have to be stupid to be stunned that party of war and defense and security would play such politics with Homeland Security.

But, if her use of the term "stun" is all that is bothering you, then, in my opinion, you really don't have much of a real problem with her.

No. That the use of the word "stun" was just my first problem. Rhea touched on another one. Not to mention, I wouldn't lose any sleep if the Department of Homeland Security was shut down.

Well then, who the hell would read your emails?

I hate to break it to you, but your mom doesn't actually think you're all that interesting. :p

Well, who'd be at this point, with the Republicans.

Our problem is that the W Admin put a lot of stuff under Homeland Security, including FEMA.

I don't understand. Are you under the impression that the Department of Homeland Security is mainly involved in "militarization"? Or that the Department of Defense will shift funds to the Department of Homeland Security to offset any of its cuts?
Not to mention, I wouldn't lose any sleep if the Department of Homeland Security was shut down.
So, you think she is stupid because she doesn't wish to eliminate the Department of Homeland Security?

While I can imagine there are any numbers of reasons to be upset with a politician, Sen. McCaskill's remarks do not seem to one of them.

Well, if one POTUS can put the stuff under there, another one can pull all that stuff back out. The existence of the Homeland Security Department, along with the entire Patriot Act, never sat well with me. Just another step or two towards fascism if you ask me.

Right now, that'd mean closing FEMA, Secret Service, the Coast Guard among other legitimate orgs within the Government.

Obama isn't going to let anything truly serious get shut down, and before it gets to Obama, Congress has 101 was to play with numbers and definitions. Instead of getting into a pointless debate with you, can we agree that Clair should have started her email similar to what you just stated? All I want is a little more honesty and less pandering to base instincts like fear
