Well... it's Trump... again. #47, here we go.

He rants about the $36 trillion in debt, $6 trillion of which came from him.
Half of that also occurred in 2020 alone as a direct result of the COVID Pandemic. Also, Biden's post-Pandemic deficits have been higher than than Trump's pre-Pandemic deficits.
Of course, deficits have been a bipartisan affair in Washington. But Trump hasn't been exceptionally profligate, except for the Pandemic, and that spending was rightly bipartisan.

Typical right winger fails to take into account a basic thing like a serious mass violation of human rights (when it happens to non-white people). Strange.
FIFY.
Do you actually support expropriating white farmers in South Africa?
Is it a fact that only white farmers having their land expropriated in South Africa?

The law allowing for government to steal privately owned land was passed by ANC expressly to increase the share of black land ownership.
Even BBC acknowledges that.
South African president signs controversial land seizure law

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed into law a bill allowing land seizures by the state without compensation - a move that has put him at odds with some members of his government.
Black people only own a small fraction of farmland nationwide more than 30 years after the end of the racist system of apartheid - the majority remains with the white minority.
This has led to frustration and anger over the slow pace of reform.
They are not fooling anyone.

In harkens back to similar land theft by Zimbabwe government.

Trump said this evening that he is going to write an executive order to ban paper straws. I kid you not! Fuck. We need more plastic for our oceans and our brains. That’s the ticket.

AFAIK paper straws pose no threat or hazard. It's just our "populist" hero doing whatever will "piss off the libtards." As long as he keeps the weather in Santa Monica OK, the MAGA crowd will be pleased with Trump's performance.

In other recent news he's ordered the Mint to stop making pennies. They made 4.5 billion pennies in 2023 at a cost roughly double their $45 million face value. In a mere 10,000 years the aggregate savings from this brave decision will save the Treasury as much as Elon Musk's total wealth! Trump personally earns more than this $45 million annual loss every day from his cryptocoin grifts.

I think executives from the zinc mining industry will show up eager to fellate the Grifter-in-Chief. If their ministrations satisfy him Trump will graciously allow Americans to keep shiny new pennies.

The paper straw fas has thankfully diminished over the last few years, so the executive order is a bit of grandstanding.
However, these things had been an abomination.
Plastic straws do not account for all that much plastic garbage by mass, and the paper straw were a much inferior product. They were flimsy and had a weird mouth feel.
Better would be to develop biodegradable polymers for single use applications rather than replacing them with inferior alternatives that people will hate. Same goes for plastic bag bans in many places.
I have some metal straws; reusable, and dishwashable. I don't recall how, why, or where I obtained them.

It's actually 7.8 trillion, and half of that occurred before the pandemic -- the 2017 tax cut was a result of the Repubs having unrestricted power. In other words, debt that didn't have to happen, but was incurred to please the donor class. Just like the situation this year; what's to stop them? Lots more debt on the way. Funny how the Repubs never go on about "How will you pay for that?" when they run the show.

It is not grandstanding - it is just bonkers, especially coming from a President that wants to slash regulations.
Trump wants to slash regulations on business and personal freedom that Conservatives don't approve, but he wants more stringent regulation of personal freedom issues that Conservatives disapprove of. The usual old-fashioned double standard.

Why not just ban ALL straws? Just gulp (or sip, if that's your thing) your drink down. That's what I do. At fast food joints, they always give me a plastic straw wrapped in paper (and a plastic lid too) with my cup and it usually ends up like that as I dump my trash in the bin. Do people use straws at home to drink a glass of water or milk? If not, why do you need one at a FF joint or a cafeteria?

Someone should investigate this straw nonsense. Maybe Big Straw is getting kickbacks or something.

I think the paper straw ban was done to piss off California. I could be wrong, but I have gotten the impression that California doesn't use many plastic straws. I have a better idea. I agree we could all stop using straws for most things, unless there is a medical condition that makes it easier for the person to drink through a straw or maybe while drinking a milkshake. I forgot about those since I haven't had one in years. I have a few plastic straws that I use in a large water cup at night, so I can take a sip every time I get up during the night, but I put them in the dishwasher and reuse them. They've lasted for years.

So, it is NOT A FACT that only white farmers are having their farmland appropriated, but that is a fear.

If an ethnic or racial group owned 70% of the farmland, it is reasonable they would bear that proportion of the expropriation.

Please do not confuse my concern with separating fact from speculation with approval.

In California, plastic straws are only banned in full service restaurants, where a waiter takes your order and delivers your food. But, if you request a straw, they will give it to you. Fast food type places are exempt from the plastic straw ban. And yeah, California is notorious for these kinds of laws. I would be curious to see what percentage of plastic waste is from full service restaurant straws...I suspect its de minimus. I doubt the legislators who came up with this ban have any idea themselves, but it makes them feel good about their envirormental cred. I remember a few years back when we were in the beginning stages of a drought, one of their high profile solutions to saving water was to decree that restaurants not serve you a glass of water automatically with your meal. You had to request it. This was before they imposed any kind of restriction on residential landscape irrigation.

Farmers who signed contracts with the Agriculture Department under those programs paid up front to build fencing, plant new crops and install renewable energy systems with guarantees that the federal government would issue grants and loan guarantees to cover at least part of their costs. Now, with that money frozen, they’re on the hook.

Just more lies from the Trump Admin... if we even want to call is an Administration. They currently seem more involved deconstruction the Administration than administering the law as they the Constitution orders them to.

The Agriculture Department has also halted funding for other programs, including scientific research grants in agriculture and producing climate-smart crops, according to a letter sent to the agency Thursday from House Democrats on the Agriculture and Appropriations committees.

“Pulling the rug out from these recipients runs counter to the mission of the USDA and will quickly and significantly cripple economic development in rural America,” the letter says.

The White House repeatedly said the freeze of agriculture funding and other federal financial assistance would not impact benefits that go directly to individual people, such as farmers. The administration rescinded the pause after a federal judge temporarily halted its implementation.
The MAGA folks are saying one thing, doing another, putting an end to what must be presumably woke nonsense. They aren't pausing funding to people, but are... stopping spending that is wasteful, that isn't... going back on agreements made by the Government that Trump appears to think he has no reason to fulfill. Granted, that is par for the course for him.

Trump is telling America that you can't trust him to fulfill on the promises / agreements made by the Government... funded by Congress.

According to this 0.5%. Not large... but of things that we could do without... I'd say it is easily expendable. At a restaurant, it is likely the only thing that isn't reused. There is really no reason for it either. Ending the use of straws at sit down restaurants doesn't solve the plastic problem, but it is a relatively harmless attempt at reducing plastics.

At a fast food joint, it is nothing compared to the cup.

Ah so Republicans are against the free market after all.

Neither Democrats not GOP support the Free Market. They are supported by those that hate the "free market" and want to provide as much difficulty as possible to keep others from entering the markets they current have a sizable share of.

"Free market" =/ unregulated market

Do you really think the free market is clamoring for the abomination that are paper straws?
Yes, obviously. That's why the Trump administration has to impose regulations that force people to use plastic straws.
