Bibi's big speech thread.

Starts in 10 minutes. 55 not attending at last count. Slightly more than 1/10 of legislators, but its a statement that would have been unthinkable before.

Here is a list. Name em and shame em.
For those that don't think, here is a list of issues:

- It is very uncommon for a foreign leader to address Congress a couple weeks before an election in their home country
- The protocol for such a speech was fucked in the beginning, with the President being left out (I know some don't care about protocol, but in general, there is diplomatic issues and this was a massive middle finger from the leader of Israel to our President... same President that was involved with the Stuxnet attack with Israel against Iran)
- The US drives its foreign policy not fucking Israel. Israel is an ally, not our parents.

Protest against this campaign speech isn't a swipe at Israel.

Why should I care about this?

Because he's trying to dupe us into eliminating Iran just like he duped us into taking out Saddam Hussein. Only Iran is a tougher nut, by far. Why no one simply asks him how many troops he's willing to pledge in event of war in Iran is beyond me. That would shut him up in a hurry.

I see, so this is to disrupt the talks.

Not surprisingly.

And for the past 47 years it has been little but Palestinians trying to defend their homes and their land and their lives from Israel.
"Defend their homes" by blowing themselves up in Israeli cafes and buses or shooting thousands of rockets at Israeli cities. Oh and having destruction of Israel as their goal.
Just to keep things in perspective, would you rather 1000 Palestinian rockets headed to your area... or a single Israeli rocket?

The question Israel is faced with is: Do we want to have 1000 rockets thrown at us, or do we want to end our oppression and theft?

They have consistently chosen the former.

Nobody is saying anything about "eliminating" Iran. However, their current theocratic regime is number one state sponsor of terrorism. Hezbollah and Hamas are wholly owned subsidiaries of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. Their general was killed in January while operating with Hezbollah terrorists close to Israeli border. Imagine this regime developing nuclear weapons!

As far as Saddam, he was developing nuclear weapons until Israel bombed his reactor in 1981. He was also paying a handsome reward to the families of Palestinian suicide bombers.

The rockets from Gaza increased significantly after Israel dismantled all settlements there and pulled their troops out. Stop pretending "occupation" has anything to do with this as the end of occupation of Gaza increases Gazan attacks on Israel.

Since IDF goes to great lengths to actually target their rockets rather then shooting them blindly toward "my area" I'll take the Israeli rocket. Unless I have a Hamas thug as a neighbor that is. :)

Sounds like propaganda. Anyone with knowledge of the Iranians know they are not going to give up their Islamic leaders.

I meant as in actually targeting you. Hamas is flinging rocks. People keep bringing up the hundreds and thousands of rockets that have done very very very little damage.

I mean 'eliminating as a threat.' Iraq has been effectively eliminated as a threat. No one anticipated the rise of ISIS, as a new threat. No one is talking about destroying Iran, as a nation. We do hear of 'bombing back to the stone age,' 'regime change,' etc.

Then we should not give up the sanctions.

Are they working? Are the people saying, "You know those sanctions from the Americans are hurting us so we should oust our own leaders and bend to their will", because it seems they have doing fine for the last 35 years.

No one anticipated the rise of ISIS, as a new threat.
No one but students of history. I predicted a brutal reactionary group would arise back in 2003. It was if our leaders never opened up a basic military history book.

That's like withholding US aid to Israel unless they give up their Jewish leaders.
I was not aware that the Supreme Leader of Israel is a rabbi.
Israel is a democracy, Iran is a theocracy. A theocracy that is number one state sponsor or terrorism and one that is pursuing nuclear weapons. That is very scary.

Well they haven't managed to get the bomb yet. Of course, they still manage to do a lot of damage through their proxies like Hezbollah but that just makes a case to be more aggressive against them, not more appeasing.

And being more aggressive will work how? By binding their people behind their leaders? Because Iran is a nation-state. People tend to get behind their leaders in the face of aggression.

We shot down an Iranian 747... and that didn't stop the violence. How much more aggressive is necessary?

The comment you were responding to said Iran's Islamic leaders. Every leader in Iran going back centuries has been Islamic.

Maybe when you're done soiling yourself over big, bad Iran, you can get some reading glasses.

This speech is designed to do a few things which you apparently are okay with:

1. Use the US Congress as a campaign stop. When was the last time the Congress invited a foreign leader to campaign on the floor of the House?
2. Disrupt the negotiations with Iran. Your fearless leader Bibi thinks he's smarter than the US, the UK, China, Russia, and Germany, and clearly doesn't give a fuck how much damage he does in order to get himself reelected.
3. Draw the US into conflict with a country which does not threaten us. Perhaps you've missed it in your hero worship of Bibi, but Israel is not part of the United States and can defend herself just fine. However, Bibi the Dreamboat of Derec's fantasies knows that he can't just go and attack Iran by himself. He needs the US to help, and invading another Middle Eastern country just to help 'ole Beebs isn't something we should be doing.

If you're so concerned about Israel and wish Netanyahu was your leader, then maybe you should go over there and join the IDF? But beware, they have women soldiers, so that's probably gonna be a sticking point for you...

That was far from the end of oppression and theft. In fact it was used as an excuse to increase oppression and theft in the West Bank.

The division between Gaza and the West Bank is an imposed artificial separation.
