Merged Greenland is part of NATO via Denmark

To denote when two or more threads have been merged
In other news NATO countries are sending their navies and troops to Greenland. There's quite the build up now.

So even if Trump controls the sea and sky. Its going to be difficult to ever control the land. The wilderness is massive. Danosh special forces could operate there for years

Well done Trump. USA won't take it by force. It'll be Afghanistan 2

But most importantly, with all those NATO troops on Greenland, if Trump would invade, it will trigger a war with every single NATO country in one go. Each NATO country has sent at least two soldiers. For the expressed purpose of triggering war if USA attacks.

Too bad EU is totally dependent on american LNG which will be cut by the Orange.

Trump is acting as if he wants the US to have no allies and wants the US to be a pariah state.

He's insane.

And his sycophants are detestable. Bessent is out there parroting this "gotta have Greenland" bullshit as if the treaty giving the US access to defend it does not exist.

Why does Trump want to make enemies of the whole world?
That IS what he wants because he believes that Putin will really love him then.

Also he wants everyone to feel as horrible as he feels.

Maybe down the road. But I can't see Europe going to war over Greenland. It would effectively end NATO and put the UN at risk as well. The cost of taking Greenland would far supercede any "benefits" of doing so.

I think the better thing to consider is whether the US military would actually follow such orders, as invading Greenland would be against treaty law. I'm uncertain if that would be considered an "illegal order".
I think the GOP concludes that ending the UN and NATO would be benefits. That is the whole point. The oligarchs want little nationalistic shitholes that they can most easily dominate and exploit.
Possibly, but that'd be short sighted. NATO and the UN have made these people wealthy in the first place.

They did? How?
Stability.

Yes, kind of, and when the US was the world's superpower it played a game to benefit oligarch and national interest using the UN, NATO, and US aid. Trump's new national security strategy is a retreat from globalism and an admission that the US has failed in the game as China rises and Russia operates however it wants to. Other than issues of labor cost and distribution, the other aspect of globalism has been that critical resources such as rare earth minerals and others are largely controlled by China and it has been investing in 3rd world areas for future access. Trump is meeting this by downscaling how far US reach has been to our own hemispheric regions, specifically North and South America but upscaling in aggression. All allies in the region must show fealty to US dominance. All opponents or territories that have fealty outside the hemisphere must be transformed to vassal states.

I'd say Trump is trying to enable isolationist US first globalism. He wants the cake... he wants to eat the cake.

Getting Maria Machada to give him her Nobel Prize -- "With the FIFA Peace Prize he's got TWO Peace Prizes. Nobody's ever done that before! Abe Lincoln? He didn't do it; Jesus Christ? He didn't do it" -- should have been the last straw. Anyone who still refuses to accept that Trump has the mentality of a six year-old brat has got to be on drugs.

And now he launches a trade war against U.S.'s closest allies, for refusing to turn over Greenland to this Double Nobel Prize winner. @RVonse -- Do you have comments about this?

Do you think that Trump actually thinks Greenland is this big?

[Mercator projection showing Greenland three timesNote 1 the size of Australia.]

There’s a funny meme there somewhere.

I'd not be surprised if he is operating under that stupid geographic misconception. It's common for world leaders to have a world globe in their office, but Trump got rid of his to make room for more gold bric-a-brac.

Two months ago, the Whitehouse published a National Security Policy document.

The word "Greenland" appears in this document 0 times. That's zero, with a 'Z'.

So why is Greenland suddenly a major national security concern? The answer begins with an 'E'. And ends with a 'pstein'.

I'm glad we agree that Zero has a Z. I've long been a vocal advocate of this spelling!
An alternate explanation for this latest burst of insanity begins with 'S' and ends with 'tupidity.'

Note 1: I guessed "three times" by passing a small coin over the map SLD posted. In the olden days, I might have Googled, selecting keywords from the query:
On a Mercator projection what is the ratio in map areas between Greenland and Australia?
Surely the calculation (or even simple pixel counting) has been done before; and the olden-days search would come up with that answer.

But now Google search gives you the Gemini word-guesser for free, so I sent the query to ChatGPT:
ChatGPT said:
Short answer: on a Mercator map, Greenland and Australia come out roughly comparable in area, with Greenland appearing about 0.6 to 1.0 times the map area of Australia, depending on exactly how you average the distortion.

[erroneous arithmetic omitted.]

Final result

On a Mercator projection, Greenland appears roughly 70–90% the area of Australia.
Visually, they can look nearly the same size, even though Australia is over three times larger in reality.

That gentle lie told by Mercator is why classroom globes quietly laugh at wall maps

The Short and Final answers are both wrong. This reaffirms the belief that LLMs remain even stupider than human, arguably even as stupid as Trump!

Gemini appeared to do SLIGHTLY better but finishd with the same wrong answer.

The winner:

Greenland appears about 3.3 times the area of Australia on a Mercator map.

80 years no wars between major powers. Mostly stable world trade. A much more prosperous planet.

Letter Trump sent to the PM of Norway. No this is not an Onion spoof:

Dear Jonas:

Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America. Denmark cannot protect that land from Russia or China, and why do they have a “right of ownership” anyway? There are no written documents, it’s only a boat that landed there hundreds of years ago, but we had boats landing there, also. I have done more for NATO than any person since its founding, and now, NATO should do something for the United States. The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland. Thank you! President DJT

Complete and utter embarrassment. Clowns with nuclear weapons.

The mental disorder that radiates out of these 29 words is so plain that it is hard to believe that Trump actually said this. He didn't get a prize, so to hell with what the prize is meant to honor. This is the equivalent of a three-year-old who comes to your house for a birthday party and doesn't get the party favor he wanted. He excuses himself, goes into your den, and takes a dump on your sofa. On the way back to the party room, he urinates on your dog.

Clearly this is all about him.

I don't know what can be said about this incompetent, lying, evil egomaniac that hasn't be said before but congress has got to see that this person is completely unfit to be president. When will the GOP grow the balls to kick him out? I guess instead they;ll let the US and the world to to hell before they risk being primaried or have Bondi's goons investigate them.

Just fucking amazing.
It was only ever about the shiny bauble.
A shallow vacuous adult wouldn't even say it out loud.
One step beyond whatever that would be, we have Trump.

This one is right up there with Helsinki.

Trump goes on to say "why" is this Denmark's? Because after the horrors of WWII, the Western World decided this territory shifting shit needs to stop.

With NATO thrown into question, some officials see the “coalition of the willing” as the basis for a new alliance without the U.S.

...

But for some government officials, a post-U.S. future for Western allies isn’t hard to imagine.

For starters, European states, including those not in the EU like Britain and Norway, have spent much of Trump’s second term working in an increasingly effective group that already operates without America: the so-called coalition of the willing to support Ukraine.

National security advisers from 35 governments are in regular contact, meeting frequently online and in person, as well as interacting via less formal text messaging. They are accustomed to seeking multilateral solutions in a world where Trump is a big part of the problem.

Levels of trust in these circles are generally high, according to people familiar with the way the group operates. Nor is it just at the level of officials: National leaders are themselves rolling up their sleeves and working in intimate new groupings.

Leaders including the U.K.’s Keir Starmer, France’s Emmanuel Macron and Germany’s Friedrich Merz, as well as European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Alexander Stubb of Finland and Meloni of Italy regularly text with each other — often in the same group chat.

...

This format could potentially become the seedbed for a new security alliance in an era when the U.S. no longer supports NATO and European security. A new arrangement wouldn’t exclude cooperation with America, but nor would it take it for granted.

Also in the text chats with the Washington Group leaders is Zelenskyy himself, which brings another intriguing idea into the mix. Ukraine is by far the most militarized country among those represented, with a huge army, a highly sophisticated drone production industry, and more expertise in the realities of fighting a war than anyone.

Six year-old brats are a dime a dozen. I'll guess there are lots of 80 year-old brats too.
If we screened all the 12 year-olds who've been diagnosed as sociopaths, I'll bet we could find some dozens of these bullies who, if given absolute power and advisors like Stephen Miller and Alex Jones, would be as bad a POTUS as DJT. Derec's champions -- George Zimmerman and Kyle Rittenhouse -- might be almost as bad as Trump if sitting in the Oval Office and encouraged to do their worst.

But what about Senators and Congressmen with "(R)" by their name?? With few exceptions these are people with 100+ IQs, who got college degrees without hiring shills to take their exams, most of whom have never been convicted of a felony, and who behave like they're adults. It is these people, who never veto Trump's inanities, who never muster the gumption to say No; It is these Repugnant legislators who have failed America so heinously.
