Here we go! First night of the draft, new millionaires being minted every 8 minutes. What do you think of your team’s first round pick (s)?

Ravens selected Olaivavega Ioane, a guard, who shall henceforth be known as “Wordle”. A solid, unspectacular pick to improve one of their main weaknesses.

Estimated 800,000 came to the city.

Sports media is in a feeding frenzy. Like sprinkling food on the water in a fish tank.

Patriots draft Russini in first round.
I’d ask what her best position is, but that would probably be misinterpreted.

I like how Vrable missed the third day of the draft to attend counseling, but according to Patriots staff he was in constant contact with their draft team.

Counselor: “How do you think your actions have affected your wife?”

Vrabel: “Hang on a minute. (Picks up phone) You want to draft a guy named Quintayvious? How am I supposed to talk to him with a straight face?!”

Tight end.

Do people really need conseuling to learn not to put their penises into the wrong vaginas?

And here we go, 47 hours until the first preseason game. Most of the work this month will be done by 2nd and 3rd stringers, supplemented by future UPS drivers.

My team’s division, AFC North, has three new head coaches out of four teams. One is in Cleveland (poor bastard), one in Pittsburgh (he’s going to play his 42-year old QB in preseason; interesting career move), and one in Baltimore, which dumped its underachieving HC, who was immediately hired by a team that’s not talented enough to be underachieving. Fun times.

Meanwhile, the over-achieving New England Patriots have to hit the road running this year because they weren't anywhere near as good as their Super Bowl runner-up title might imply. It was great, it was fun, but this is for real now. They take on the AFC West and NFC North as part of their schedule.

Drake "MVP" Maye will need to be ready to step up against real opponents. He had a good season last year, but again, the stats don't tell the whole story. He was not "MVP" quality last year.

Mike Vrabel will be up against it. I don't think anyone is expecting 14-3 again. Making the playoffs as a wild card would be nice though. Need at least a winning season. Winning takes coaching and execution. Last year was a rebuilding year that got out of hand with success. Understanding what is progress this season could be difficult.

Best line from the inductee speeches at the Hall of Fame ceremony came from Adam Vinateri, former placekicker:

"Pat McAfee is here. The only other person who loved holding my balls more than my wife."

Yes, that Pat McAfee, who was the holder on Vinateri's field goal attempts for several years.

McAfee, also one of the players in the worst designed and executed play in the history of the NFL.

Yes, the worst executed play also involves the Patriots being on the wrong side of that one. A play so bad, even Leon Lett thought, man... I thought I messed up.

But back to Hall of Famers, kudos to the greatest kicker ever in the game. Even if he prefers a Colts uniform, his service to the Patriots goes well beyond remarkable. While the tuck rule will forever be infamous, the field goal in that game, from over 40 yards, in the snow will forever be remembered as the best kick in Patriots history (and should be regarded the best kick in NFL history), even bigger than the one that won the Super Bowl a little bit later that playoff year.

Life is hard enough living in a state with a competitive Senate race and a quasi-competitive House race, though I haven't seen an ad for the GOP yet in that.

Now? We have something even worse in NE Ohio... Sanders (a QB with a cult following that would make Jim Jones blush, despite seemingly being a decent guy) v Watson (that guy the Browns ownership wrecked several years of progress to trade for while the guy was injured, and hasn't remotely come close to being worth the trade or payroll costs). Watson, to the surprise of my myself, and I'm assuming many others, has been named the started for the Week One game. I was assuming he was gone by now.

Regardless, I have no idea why they even came up with a choice before the end of preseason. But certainly this will be the reason why listening to local sports radio will be a fools errand.

The suffering of the Browns and their fans feeds my soul.

I don't know what'd piss off Browns fans more, going to the playoffs (11-6) with him at the helm, him losing the first four games of the year.

I feel a little for Watson. He got Andy Carroll'ed. He was never living up to the trade or payday. But it is almost as if the Browns fans got what they deserved.

Ok. Seattle made a lot of mistakes.
A win is a win!
Still one of the best fourth quarter teams ever.
