Why are Arab countries politically fragmented?

When have humans ever been united for long? Religion is fragmented, politics divided, ideology, identity, tribalism, race........
It depends what you mean by "united". All humans have always been united by all being human. I think you need to define what you mean better

We are not united in politics, ideology, religion, etc, obviously, the things that divide us and bring about conflict through division.

I don't understand what you mean?

Is the fact that we have elections evidence that we've failed in being unified?

Disagreeing about stuff is healthy. I think its good. It sounds like you are arguing for totalitarianism?

Does division and conflict not come in degrees? Mild disagreement over things that don't matter doesn't lead to war, but people do ostracise their own family members over religion, or kill and die for a cause that others disagree with.

I still think you need to work on your argument. Because I don't get it

Is it not the degree of emotional investment someone has in an idea or belief that creates resentment or a sense of threat when it is questioned or challenged.

If you have no emotional investment in the ideas being debated or challenged, you are not going to be upset over it.

With emotional investment, the opposite is true, people get upset, get defensive, resent having their beliefs challenged.

People have an emotional investment when they have hope. The point where people stop calling each other "idiot" is when things are dangerous and unstable.

So I don't see the problem with lack of unity that you do. I'm fine with people disagreeing

Fragmented politics?

Central, South America. Africa. Brexit.

Alberta recently. Quebec secessionists in the past in Canada.

Russia vs EU.

Europe has just gone though a serious attempt by the far right to grow power.

And of course Trump and Maga.

Cessesionists movements have been going on since nationlism started. It's less now than it was initially. The 19'th century was an endless mess. First half of the 20'th total chaos.

From the end of the cold war until the start of the Ukraine war, we had a little, 30 year, window of extreme peace and stability. Because one of the two superpowers suddenly desintigrated. That's not normal. What we have now is normal.

The European far right is not more empowered now than they were in the 1990'ies. The European far right has always been a little active fringe group. That never went away.

Here's a theory. We might feel there's more disunity because the media landscape is fractured. It used to be Hollywood controlling what we all watch. And we all watched the same films and TV. The Internet has now completely wrecked that. Youtube is the biggest media channel, bar none.

So we don't have the same shared narratives and myths, across the globe. The references of the kids today are do foreign and alien that it might freak us old people out. But that's not disunity.

Doesn't it depend on the nature of the division? Which may range from something that merely stimulates debate and inquiry - which is not an issue, progressing up the scale to mild disagreement, irritation, resentment, through to verbal abuse and outright physical violence.
