The federal government is notifying millions of employees as it works to assess the impact of a massive data breach involving the agency that handles security clearances and employee records.

Federal officials suspect that Chinese hackers are behind the data breach, Dow Jones reported, citing sources.

"The FBI is working with our interagency partners to investigate this matter. We take all potential threats to public and private sector systems seriously, and will continue to investigate and hold accountable those who pose a threat in cyberspace," an FBI spokesman told CNBC.

1) I'm always doubtful when they say, "officials suspect that Chinese hackers". Seems like a smart group of hackers, say hanging out in the Ukraine or even in the US, would set up a few relays with hacked computers in China being the end point. What would you accept as proof that China did it? I don't trust "government official" very much.

2) If it is China, what are we gonna do about it?

3)What are the odds of a politician using something like this as leverage to start a war?

See, if they ran this like they do the federal employee retirement system, we wouldn't have this mess. You can't hack what you can't make software for.
Sinkhole of Bureaucracy
If they got in the security data (e-QUIP), that's everything. Hell's Bells, I keep a paper copy for reference because I can't remember half this stuff. Someone could pretend to be me better than I could.
