Just Throwing This Out There

I think you might have picked a questionable example, if you think this will make people less "Islamaphobic".

The story is a bit like saying God destroyed your home and city with a tsunami, but he's actually a pretty cool dude because he arranged to leave you near a nice big log you could climb aboard on and float on for 15 days until you were resuced.

I think what would make people less Islamaphobic would be if, oh...I don't know, the Islamisists didn't board buses with the intent of mass murder in the first place.

I don't disagree with you. However, I do think that Muslims shielding non-Muslims on that bus took incredible courage. I would like to see them take the next step and abandon their wacky beliefs and become an atheist. Now that would really take courage!

I'm sure the Islamophobes will claim that these "Good Muslims" are just the exception that proves the rule.

Plenty of people, including many who have been stinking up this very forum as of late, don't recognize the distinction.

It can be very hard to tell them apart until they act.

Simplify. Call terrorists extremists. Do it for all flavors including KKK, IRA, Boko haram or whatever, depressed taking arms and acting out, etc. Now we can forget about religion and just concentrate on getting at the bad actors. IMHO its time to get after those in Nevada stealing the people's grasslands. Hi Ho Silver.

The problem of course is that people are lazy. People'd rather demonize a group than track divergent attributes by act. Perfectly natural. Its the way of speciation which is the actual condition for which we are capable of adapting at generational rates. Still, we need try to refocus ourselves into more rational beings by societal mechanisms, or we'll slip back into identified tribes, balkanize to the extreme, and return to the bad old days of the cave ones.

We can keep more than 300 faces in memory ferchrissake. Leverage off that.

I don't see how that solves the problem.

Typical Muslim--harmless. Typical Islamist--if they're not a shooter they'll likely side with the shooter rather than the society.

It's hard to tell if anyone is immoral until they do something to demonstrate it; Muslims are not unique in this regard, and only an ignoramus would argue, as many do, that they ought to be singled out.

It's human nature to identify the characteristic that threats share and react even when it's possessed by non-threats.

So what? Apparently it is human nature to believe in god, to rape and to murder, but that doesn't make it right or necessary.
