Trump Say He Can Eliminate 19 Trillion In Debt In 8 Years By Selling US Assets

After a little thinking on this, I've changed my mind. I want the US Virgin Islands. Sun, sand, surf, and benevolent dictatorship (at first :diablotin:)

I call the Grand Canyon. And I should get a discount because it's mostly air, not land.

If Trump becomes president, can we sell that thing on top of his head?

Canada will take one of the Dakotas off your hands if you want. It's not like you're really using either of them anyways.

I call Yellowstone and where Huey Long got shot.

Huey Long was shot in the stomach. It's probably not going to be on the list.

Dude, you're like $800 trillion in debt. If someone offers cash to President Trump for Huey Long's stomach, President Trump will get him Huey Long's stomach. Either that, or he'll murder some Mexican and sell you that guy's stomach and then sue you if you accuse him of fraud.

Well, if you put it that way, I do know where it is.

US Federal debt at this time is about 19.2 trillion dollars. Selling assets to pay debts is a historically tried and true method for reducing indebtedness. Whether Trump could get his target amount or the wisdom in selling the assets he proposes is a different matter. In this instance, I will give props for making a sensible proposal in theory.

For this, you get the Minneapolis–Saint Paul Joint Air Reserve Station at a 10% discount.

And when the assets are sold there we are right back where we were.

Selling assets to make money should be prohibited. The only reason government should sell off assets is if it's something that should be handed off to the private sector in the first place.

Well, then yeah it should sell assets.

Why should the government own 640 million acres of land? 28% of the total US, >40% in the Western states.

So the Donald intends to take the country to the Pawn Shop?

Or is it Donald having a wall to wall liquidation sale!? Everything must Go! Go! Go! Prices have dropped Low! Low! Low! Come on down to CRAZY DONNY'S! How can we do this for such Low prices? BECAUSE WE'RE CRAAAAAAAZY!!!!!

He's got to build the walls first. Or maybe that's how he's planning on paying for the walls?

You are correct. All those granite peaks in the rocky mountains can be turned into granite paving stones.

Why bother selling assets when the Treasury can just issue money the way it's always done?

The national debt is just a record of how many created dollars remain in the private sector. Penalize saving, such as pensions, instead of encouraging it, and the debt will diminish.

It's not as if the debt were in a foreign currency.

Japan is way ahead of us in terms of national debt, and there is still plenty of demand for their bonds.

For that matter, money can be spent into existence, with no debt issued. It's just corporate welfare, not useful productive activity.

If the debt is paid off, we are not right back where we were.
Selling assets to make money should be prohibited.
Wow, I guess I cannot trade in my car now.

Even if the asset is being unused?

You mean other than the Federal Government bought it?
