Yes, of course it is the NRA's fault. Every mass shooting is the fucking NRA's fault, they are the reason that people are able to get the weapons they use to murder as many others as they can. Note that no other developed countries, every single one of which has gun control, have mass shootings like the US does. Every victim is dead because of the NRA. It fucking is the fucking NRA's fault you dumb twit.

He's a loon. And since gun-grabbers are against cliches like "only a good guy with a gun can stop a bad guy with a gun" they should refrain from using this one.

Winnenden school shooting

Since no one is compelled to listen to the NRA, I don't think one can entirely fault the NRA.

The weapon doesn't matter. The important aspect is mass killings. And other developed countries most certainly do have them.

oh, there is more than enough blame to go around. Congress, the gun manufacturers, state houses and city councils, glorification of gun violence in the culture, etc.
Yes, but the real blame is with the people who are using guns to solve their problems. Half of the gun deaths in the US every year are suicides, the other half are homicides-with a few percentage points being accidents. Of course we have to try to control weapons and regardless what the NRA says we can control them within the framework of the second amendment-we've been doing so almost since the beginning. But we should recognize that people are afraid and angry in this country-and when you have afraid and angry people with guns, bad things are going to happen. The blame for fanning the flames of the fear and anger lies with the media-for sure-fear sells. No doubt about it.

I don't think its going to get better until we make basic changes in our culture-in the meantime we need to try to do better at controlling who can have weapons and what kind of weapons they can have.

Sure, but important only because it is reported in a sensational manner. On the same day as a mass killing there are probably as many or more other killings that are barely noticed, certainly not reported nationally.

Loonicakes...with a few caveats.

The responsibility for a shooting, whether "mass" or otherwise, rests squarely on the shoulders of the shooter.

The NRA is certainly responsible for selling the idea that guns are the coolest thing you could ever buy.

The gun manufacturers are responsibly for selling deadly weapons as if they were candy.

Together (and of course teamed up with lawmakers too timid to speak out against the monied interests) they're guilty of promoting a culture where gun violence is not something to be avoided, but rather something to be embraced.

Yet the NRA didn't pull the trigger. Encourage people to pull as many triggers as often as possible? Yeah, but they didn't actually shoot the victims.

Agreed. We get a very biased view of hazards by reading the news.

If it causes more than one day of news it's almost certainly not a serious threat.
