I like how you think! Comparatively, the West's current wars in the Middle East are the expected blowback from centuries of brutal and violent Islamic invasion and occupation of formerly Christian lands - like Byzantium. Is there a cutoff for how far in the past one can go to justify contemporary bad behavior?

The Israeli oppression is ongoing, non-stop for almost 50 years.
To compare it some long ago ended events in history is absurd.
It shows how little there is to say in the defense of Israel today.

Nonsense. Israeli actions are due to ongoing Arab attempts to destroy Israel.
Not that long ago. Ottoman Turks weren't driven out of southeastern Europe until shortly before World War I. And of course, Turkey still maintains a foothold on European soil.
Israel has a right to defend herself. Palestinians do not have the right to blow up buses.
"Their" side of Jerusalem is land they seized in 1948 and ethnically cleansed.

You know I can understand how nutty religious people side with the Zionists. Because they are nutty religious people. I can understand how poor jewish people would as they are fed propaganda and lies from the time they can talk. Most of them aren't strong enough to challenge the lies (much like religious people), and that is at least understandable

Israel is the oppressor and has been the oppressor for almost 50 years.
And the reasons for the oppression are because Israel wants the lands occupied by Palestinians and doesn't recognize the humanity of the Palestinians.
People under these conditions will many times strike out violently.
And morons will blame the victims.

What I can't understand is "why atheists ,agnostics and <cough> rational freethinkers would" side with the Islamists when "atheists ,agnostics and <cough> rational freethinkers" would not fare very well under an islamic rule. Plus, there'd be no pork or alcohol.

Seriously? Are you saying that as some weird-ass rhetorical tactic? Are you sarcastically claiming uncertainty as a way of implying our reason is that we're pure evil? Are you making some hairsplitting distinction between siding with Zionists and siding with Israelis? Or are you genuinely, sincerely unable to understand why a rational freethinker would side with the Israelis?
If it's the latter, then here, just for you and all the other people who honestly haven't figured it out, I'll explain exactly why so many rational freethinkers side with the Israelis.

There are over half a million Israeli Jews living in the occupied territories. They are legitimate targets. Actually, depending on where this bus was going it might qualify as well.

That makes them illegal immigrants. Why would it make them legitimate targets for anything more than arrest and deportation back to Israel? Do you think we should get to blow people up for crossing the border from Mexico without permission?

Palestinians don't have any means to arrest much less deport the illegal immigrants in question. The US would be entitled to do the same if millions of Mexicans settled on the northern side of the border with their own army and started building fences and checkpoints to keep the original inhabitants out by force.
