I'm not denying the existence or seriousness of racism in the US, but it seems to me that sexism is even more pervasive.

The fact that Obama won two elections, but one of the most qualified white women in the country couldn't win against one of the least qualified white men is just one piece of evidence.

I don't know that her being a woman had too much to do with it. It was more that she misread the mood of the country and ran a poor campaign which didn't speak to them.

+1

Her being a woman had nothing to do with it at all.

I would have gladly voted for Elizabeth Warren or even Jill Stein if she had run democrat.

But instead I had to vote Trump mostly because I am sick of business as usual in Washington which is exactly what Hillary stands for.

What you should be asking in the OP is why the democratic party pushed such an inferior candidate when they had Bernie right there to begin with. Bernie would have slaughtered Trump.

On the one hand you had a charming candidate who gave people something to believe in, and on the other you had a candidate who agreed with what people wanted in theory but told them they need to be realists and that stuff isn't possible so here's how I'll deliver on 53.7% of what you want.

Call that sexism if you want, but I think it's an unelectable candidate. She might be 'the most qualified' to sit down and negotiate after the election is over, but she isn't to get people excited to vote for something.

Believing Hillary to be "one of the most qualified white women in the country" is certainly a symptom of someone suffering serious delusion...

Agree with you both. I think american voters should demand Preferential voting system.

But she doesn't believe these things in theory. People need to stop saying this. She needed to own her beliefs. She is a center-right, DLC Democrat. She is a Democratic version of a Republican Neo-Con. It's no wonder the Neo-cons support her. The problem for her is that the electorate wants no part of that. They want protectionism, to stop immigration, and no more needless wars. She represents the opposite of this.

Where do you get that Trump represents that? Trump wants to nuke the Middle East.

Except Trump doesn't represent a new ideal. He's a businessman. He WANTS to keep business as usual. Changing the status quo isn't his plan. Those Big Corporations that people are always saying have Congress in their pockets and only use the US to make them money? They just elected someone from that Big Corporation inner circle.

Yes, the US is extremely sexist, and that certainly played a role in this election. What saddens me most is the number of women who voted for a self admitted sexual predator who likes to rate women by their looks. I have little doubt that Trump would disown his own daughter if he didn't think she was hot enough for him to date.

After some thought, I do believe the US is more sexist than racist.

I live in a heavily Hispanic area. When Obama was running, the polling place was crowded. I had to stand in line. I was there almost an hour.

Last night, I went to vote at the same time as I had for the earlier presidential election. The polling place was nearly deserted.

I guess if you assume that women can be sexist against themselves, then yes. Women voters, almost solely, could have put Hillary in the White House, but for whatever reason, they didn't do it.

I was kind of shocked to hear last night that college educated white women in Florida favored Trump. Other states had surprisingly high percentage of women supporting Trump. 'Splain Lucy.

That's not my assessment of the candidate, but the message she put out. She talked up the party platform and I don't think she believed in or had any intention of following it.

America can't compete in the current market with Chinese steel makers who are subsidized by the PRC government where they sell steel and other metals below the market rate thus creating unfair competition. Tariffs are a defence to compensate for this but previous governments have not addre facssed this problem.

In fact China is the one which is practicing pretectionsm of its industries through selling below cost price when necessary to its own ends.
The main platform on immigration was to stop illegal immigration not stop legal immigration.

While I am sure that there were some who voted against Hillary because she was a woman, there were others who voted for her because she was a woman. So that was a wash most likely.

Maybe they did not buy the doomsday prophecies about Trump or the Godwinesque comparisons with Hitler. In fact, if you overdo such rhetoric it has the danger of

I do not like Trump and did not vote for him, but Democrats have managed to make the bully look like a victim of bullying. It's like one of those 80s teen movies where the comeuppance at the end is way too harsh and you end up sympathizing with the bad guy.

It does not follow from that that US is "more sexist than racist". That would be to reduce Obama to one half of his racial heritage and Hillary to her gender. In fact, Hillary ran a poor campaign and was a deeply flawed candidate with many self-inflicted wounds. Almost any Democratic senator or governor could have wiped the floor with Trump, but no, we had to have Hillary shoved down our throats.

I'd say it was more than a wash. I will bet there were more people voting for woman as president than against it. Problem for her was that she had little else going for her. And Trump represented change. Same as Obama before him.

If a former Senator and Secretary of State is somehow not highly qualified then the whole thing is a delusion.

How does being a sliver spoon petty dictator your whole life make you qualified?

The claim was that she was "one of the most qualified", not "more qualified than Trump".
