A recent survey by the Pew Research Center found a sizable shift in the views of American Muslims when it comes to homosexuality and found them to be more accepting of it than white evangelicals.

In a survey conducted between January and May, 52 percent of U.S. Muslims said homosexuality should be accepted by society — an increase of 25 percentage since 2007. Comparatively, only 34 percent of white evangelical Protestants said they believed homosexuality should be accepted, the smallest percentage of any group surveyed.

You know, I've thought more recently about prejudice and its presence in American political discourse, and I don't think your statement here is fair or appropriate. It is one thing to claim that Christianity as a belief system is stupid or dumb, quite another to make that claim of every person in America who lives by that belief system. What about Secular Christians such as Deists? Deists as a group are so widely varied in their beliefs that you cant even pin them down as a group in themselves. Some deists even go so far as to deny the existence of a creator god all together. Are they all dumb too?

It's a bit disingenuous to compare all US Muslims, including liberal Muslims and nominal Muslims/MINOs, with a specific subgroup of Christians known to be one of the most conservative and anti-gay subgroups in American Christianity.

What is also to consider is probable sampling bias of the survey. Obviously, those Muslims who are unintegrated, living in conservative Muslim enclaves like Clarkston, Ga, and don't speak English (well) would be more likely to oppose homosexuality and also less likely to respond to the Pew survey.

Actually, if you go by attitudes toward Christianity, White American Christians are most likely more accepting than Black American Christians, given the general conservatism of black churches on moral issues.
Note that most White American Christians are not Evangelicals and that Pew for some reason lumps all black protestants together and doesn't differentiate by mainline/evangelical.
But I guess that doesn't fit into your "white people are the worst" narrative.

It's a fair comparison. Muslims are also known to be anti-gay. And white evangelicals are a much bigger population, and also include liberals. If it makes you feel better, acceptance by Muslims was also higher than from black protestants, though only by 52 to 50.

So, in a culture such as ours where this question is equivalent to asking "Are you a hateful bigot" (with all that social pressure to say no) only half or so of people in these groups say that they are not, and this is to be celebrated?

And the group that is struggling more themselves for social acceptance in America goes with the better and more sympathetic answer more than the one who has the political power to push for theocratic laws in their favour? Should that surprise us?

It would be more interesting and eye opening to take a look at the answers from people of these religions where the social norm holds homosexuality more taboo. Would be curious to know how Christians living in the middle Eastern Muslim countries (where Homosexuality is especially taboo) would answer this question.

Would the experience of prejudice towards them influence them to be more sympathetic towards others facing the same? Or do we as humans more often become even more prone to this?

The way that black church people regard homosexuals is another data point to consider.
