Recently we had another one of these from the regressive left, trying to shut down Christina Hoff Sommers this time, at Lewis & Clark law school. The school is doing taking the right position here which is nice to see

https://law.lclark.edu/live/news/38373-statement-on-the-christina-hoff-sommers-speech

We do not condone the intentional efforts by even a few students to prevent this speaker from communicating her views to the vast majority of students who were willing to hear and debate them. The law school is taking appropriate disciplinary actions in accordance with school policies.

Critical thinking and discourse are integral to the mission of Lewis & Clark Law School. We seek to welcome speakers who represent a variety of opinions, with the goal of stimulating discussions and expanding our views on important legal and social issues. Addressing ideas head-on, with reason and evidence, is what we do.

We are an educational institution, and we will use this event as a learning opportunity for our students and our administration.

We have seen a lot of this from the regressives over the past few years: BLM Toronto holding up pride parades and interrupting a police apology to the gay community, BLM rushing Bernie Sanders at the podium, toxic feminists shutting down MRA meetings, schools requiring massively expensive security so folks like Ben Shapiro (of all people) can speak safely, many other such happenings, and now this.

What is the equivalent on the other side of politics? I have seen pro-life protesters marching in the street, but it has been a long time since I've seen them storm a pro-choice meeting (I did hear of such an event many years back). The people who attacked that communist book store in the recent thread here may be an example, but that was more attacking property than interrupting or shutting down speech. I'm sure there are more from the right that are not coming to mind right now? Which recent ones stick out in your mind?

I remember an incident last year where an alt-righter drove into a crowd of protesters. I'm not surprised you missed that, it wasn't reported that much. The guys behind the Minnesota mosque bombing tried to bomb an abortion clinic as well. That took me all of five seconds and the use of a website called google. Examples are there if you want to look.

Some things are definitely illegal, like the right winger driving into a crowd. However, I wonder how much of some of these things are staged with perhaps both sides in on it.

I am thinking of George Wallace calling Kennedy to tell him what he had in mind and getting the a okay to stand up at the school house door. He and Kennedy wanted certain things done and Wallace's perceived standing up to him at the door made him popular and both he and Kennedy got some things done in Alabama they both wanted to see done as a result. Turns out it was a big show all along. Katzenback was personally sent to "reason" with Wallace but really was there to be part of the act.

I don't think that it's staged. I'm not going to lie, this movement from a minority on the left is very disturbing. I think (hope) that it is arising mostly out of frustration that the left has no power today. Zip. The conservatives control everything. And yet, conservatives are a minority party. There are more democrats that republicans.

I do remember that guy. There was also the guy who drove through protestors and his car was attacked. Those were both lone actors whereas the regressives were groups. I wonder if that's a trend or just my impression.

There is no doubt that there is a growing segment of people on the fringe left who are strategizing on how to restrict the speech from right wingers. However, there is a danger that the size and power of this group will be greatly exaggerated to stir the right similar to how the danger from Jihadists has been incredible exaggerated.

When we have had threads here about disrupting speeches (or roads, etc) there seems to be a majority of people who support disruption. I guess I can reconcile that with your statement by concluding a majority of people here are on the fringe left.

Apparently, some of those same poster are even in favor of putting people in jail for offensive, poorly executed attempts at humor.

No kidding. It took me about 7 seconds to find
https://reason.com/blog/2017/10/16/whittier-college-speakers-trump-shutdown or
https://www.campusreform.org/?ID=9951 or even conservative heckling conservatives
http://www.newsweek.com/donald-trump-cpac-mona-charen-heckled-me-too-movement-times-sexual-misconduct-819079 and finally conservative members of the Canadian parliament (Canadian and British) called out for heckling:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/speaker-expels-tory-mp-heckling-1.4427036 and
http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/grenier-hecklers-regan-fall-1.3951917

Given how easy it it to find this, it makes one wonder what is prompting all of this sloppy stereotyping.

The regressives struck again at Queens. Why is Toronto so beset by these people? I wasn't even expecting it o this one. Watching a Jordan Peterson talk on the upswing of compelled speech. Its a good talk. Skip ahead to 10:30 as the earliest bits are dull intro. Then the protestors come in (or was this staged? its so perfectly timed and placed to show the phenomenon) and then the talk proceeds.

Remember that one time a few years back when a few guys were caught plotting to blow up an apartment building full of immigrants?

Yeah wasting a few minutes of people's time. Damn those Holocaust survivors had it easy by comparison, the pussies. What an age of terror we truly live in.

Nobody equated them to Nazis. But it was more than a few minutes. They actually kept it up throughout the talk, banging on the windows. You can see it if you watch the vid.

I didnt say they were compared to nazis I made a flippant juxtaposition to undercut your post and point out the (imo) absurdity of this particular molehill.

Oh no. Well that changes everything. They banged on the windows. Granted at that point campus security should have probably stepped up if they haven't already but really are we going to claim that this is some big problem? The event took place, the speakers got to speak, the audience got to listen and ask questions. The fuck else do you want?

Why you so hostile bro? Its great that they didn't pull a fire alarm or shoot anybody or anything. Big props for that.
