Somehow Republicans wrote up a ridiculous, silly, childish, and utopian scheme and tricked the sooper smart Democrats in adopting it.

Behold, the Green New Deal

Hey, why work at all?!?

Every building.

Well, O'Leary's cow did cause the great Chicago fire.

Makes perfect economic sense.

Let's build that train to Hawaii!

But surely this Republican ploy would be spotted by the sooper smart Democrats.

Eh, four more years of Trump.

And making air travel obsolete. I guess all we need is to link Yakutsk and Fairbanks and we can all go from New York to Paris in mere 48 hours ...

So, we have all these far right religious types who want women to quit their jobs, stay at home and raise their children. "Economic security for those unwilling to work". Stay at home Moms. So when there is a proposal that will give the religious right wingers what they want without penalizing such families with stay at home Moms financially, the right wingers are freaking out about this. It can also be a life saver for Moms with special needs childrens and caring for a mother or father who is slipping into something like Alzheimer's. No, it is not meant for 20 year old morons who want to stop working and play video games all day while smoking weed.

You right wingers want stay at home Moms, you got it, progressive style. Suck it up! Drop those straw men right now!

Despite your insistence, that is NOT the green new deal. That is essentially the highway billboard marketing ad for the green new deal. I bet you that everything you are ridiculing with reductum ad absurdum arguments are vastly simplified versions of the likely quite nuanced and not overly generalized policy goals.

Show me the actual bills and we can talk about how riduculous this "green new deal" really is.

Yeah right. The recent midterm election is evidence that the Republicans are going to stay in power for a long time. /s

What a shock. Ad hominem instead of substantive counter-argument from right wingers. That almost never happens.

Well, as I usually say: Do California first. Make it a shining green beacon of and for lazy people's rights.

Hmm, "lazy" contains such negative historical connotations. Lets call them Folks (folks always sounds so down-to-earth) suffering from Initiative Deficit Disorder. The FIDD community.

Let's make California a Shining Green Beacon for the FIDD community!

Though I hear Pelosi's not on board so maybe this one will have to be New York instead.

Yeah, California is *so* lazy and unproductive that it *only* produces a state tax surplus of 21b, providing 400 billion in Federal taxes, and putting more in than they get out.

Such a deficit in initiative...

Edit: it's almost like you are gaslighting us here... Maybe next time you want to hold up an example of how a state is lazy, you could try Alabama or Louisiana, which spend something like 2.5 dollars for every one dollar that they raise in taxes... Oh, wait, those are Republican states, you say? With Republican policies of austerity and little infrastructure spending? Nothing to see here?

I didn't say California was lazy.

That seems to be entirely a product of your FIDDophobic imagination.

Indeed, my point is that California is the perfect place to pull off the green dream so it can serve as shining green beacon to those who say it can't be done. Your points would support this, I think.

Except that California has consistently already been doing all the things in this "green new deal" legislation. So your point falls flat on it's face. Or you are gaslighting. So which do you want to cop to: being wrong, or gaslighting?

We're talking about an all out ban on fossil fuels and fossil fuel related products here. If California did that I missed it. I do recall something about plastic straws and plastic bags, but not all products.

it's a bit disingenuous of you to suggest California to clean other states shit.

Huh? The green dream brings nothing but wealth and prosperity. Why wouldn't California grab that even if other states didn't want to?

Yes, but only if everybody agrees to participate.
Why wouldn't California grab that even if other states didn't want to?
Because California is sharing this planet with the rest of the world.

LOL

‘We’re nuts!’ isn’t a great pitch for a Green New Deal

Huh? Why would the green dream bring new wealth and prosperity to the US but not to California?

You're going to have to be more specific.

The US is also sharing the planet with the rest of the world.

The rest of the world will do what US/EU tells them to do.

That doesn't strike me as an answer. What do you imagine it is about the green dream causes the wealth and prosperity?

I get the impression from AOC it's "the investment in the economy". That's why I can't figure out why California wouldn't get the benefit of the investment in the economy if California did it.

How will you pay for it?
The same way we paid for the New Deal, the 2008 bank bailout and extended
quantitative easing programs. The same way we paid for World War II and all our
current wars. The Federal Reserve can extend credit to power these projects and
investments and new public banks can be created to extend credit. There is also
space for the government to take an equity stake in projects to get a return on
investment. At the end of the day, this is an investment in our economy that should
grow our wealth as a nation, so the question isn’t how will we pay for it, but what
will we do with our new shared prosperity
