Andrew Yang, whose main push is for universal basic income (I'm already liking him!) has told CNN that he plans to give speeches in multiple locations at the same time using Holograms. Well now, that's a new idea. Would you attend a political rally if the candidate isn't actually there and is there as a hologram only? Does the hologram gimmick convey a message of change and technology progress maybe? Could be a fun way for a pro-science and tech candidate to run.

CNN said:
"We are exploring rolling a truck out that would enable someone to see a hologram of me that is three-dimensional give my stump speech," Yang told the newspaper. "And, also, if I were in a studio, which we could set up very easily, I could beam in and take questions live."

Yang told the Carroll Times Herald the 3D hologram is a "fun way" to be in multiple places at once but also ties to his presidential message that times are changing.

"We can't just keep doing the same things over and over again and expect it to achieve the results we need," Yang said.

Despite his new campaign approach, Yang told the newspaper he plans to continue scheduling in-person campaign stops.

Also, honestly, a safer alternative for assholes like The Turtle or The Turd, as well as for the targets of their stoichastic terrorism. You can't shoot a hologram.

Somehow I don't think the need for Yang2020 to be in 4 places at once is currently that high.

But his schtick is that technology is destroying jobs, so why not use technology to destroy the job of the politician who goes around giving speeches.

If I ever gave a speech via hologram, I’m pretty sure that I’d spend half the time ranting about how we’re going to crush the rebel alliance. That would put me a bit off message unless there’s some rebel alliance which needs to be crushed.

MAGAts?

Oh, You're Canadian. You don't have those.

For a more prominent candidate, I think this would bomb tremendously.

I was half expecting this to be a Jimmy Higgins thread.
:D

Not this time... though the idea of Trump giving a speech and being told by the producer of the hologram, that mid-way through, "Mr. President, this is a full body hologram. You need to put on some pants!" did come to mind.

Also, what an awful idea! I want your support, but don't care enough to stop by personally. Didn't Clinton get hammered for this in Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania?

Outside of the novelty, how would viewing a speech via Hologram really be different that viewing it on a screen?

I would not take the trouble to go to a Hologram speech. In fact, I would probably hold it against a candidate who could not be bothered to actually show up in person.

He did say he would take questions from the live audience. If that's so, then how is it so different than him actually being there in person? If they do a really good hologram and he's really focused on that crowd... in what ways does it matter? I'd see it more like a weird gimmick or statement of supporting tech/science, etc.

People in Iowa and New Hampshire are conditioned to believe politicians are supposed to come kiss their ass.

As far as Yang2020 goes, I think he’s got nothing to lose. It’s consistent with his “brand”, and If he didn’t do this we would not be talking about him at all.

If he’s going to overcome Joe Biden’s 100% name recognition and strong track record with the people of Iowa (only lost to 4 people last time he ran there, but none of them are in the race this time - unless Hillary, John Edwards or Bill Richardson launch a run) Yang’s got to shake things up.

Since the point of this hologram is to allow the candidate to attend multiple rallies, etc... simultaneously, it is really not possible for the candidate to "focus" on a particular crowd.

First Warren and now Biden, the potential front runners fall pretty fast. Maybe better for Yang that he not become prominent until later on into it.
