Analysis of Fox News suggests that the TV news network is a leader in lying to the American public, beating out CNN and MSNBC for the amount of falsehoods broadcasted.

The analysis comes from Punditfact, a partnership between the Tampa Bay Times and Politifact.com, which maintains scorecards on the accuracy of major TV news networks. As of January, about 60 percent of facts reported by Fox News were false.

Criticizing the accuracy of Fox News is not a new pursuit — comedians like Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert built substantial portions of their career out of spotlighting the network’s lies and misdirection. Stewart is so well-known as an opponent that he made headlines in March for admitting Fox had actually been correct in one, specific instance.

Say what you want, but Fox News actually has anti-Trumpers and leftists on for interviews. Can't say the same for the other networks. They rarely if ever allow a conservative on to debate.

So, not a 'bot, maybe more of a See 'N Say?

C'mon, guys!

Christopher Hitchens, Bill Nye, Richard Dawkins, and various others were on Fox News being interviewed. So, please tell me how often leftist networks have on conservatives?

First, that is irrelevant to the issue of the accuracy of their actual news reports.

Second, while I do not watch that much much TV news or current event shows, but I see Kellyanne Conway gets interviewed a lot on mainstream TV. Meet the Press and Face the Nation used to have at least on conservative on its panel. PBS makes sure on its Friday politics portion to have a conservative.

My guess is that you have no clue what is on any other TV network but Fox.

Faux is a fountain of lies, disinformation, and right winged propaganda. That they occasionally have "a leftist" on for interviews does not change that basic sad truth about Faux.

Depebds on who you watch. There are three shows that are iMO more objective than CNN.

Hannity and Carlson represent the propaganda arm of FOX.

While CNN generally avoids outright fake news, IMO it is mostly slanted towards the left. They are more subtle about it. When I watch a CNN show on a topic I know the leading questions that are going to fed to guests and what the responses are going to be.

CNN is not objective. It used to be nut it went over to the dark side. It is mostly tabloid journalism, hyped drama 'breaking news', interpreting and spinning every word from Trump, gossip on 'private WH sources' that are not revealed, and opinionating.

To me the only reasonably objective news is the nightly national network news and PBS News Hour. No hype. No personal commentary and opinionating.

Wow. They're telling the truth 40% of the time? I did not expect that.

Even though CNN and MSNBC have more liberal guests on for interviews, that does not mean that it was because conservative guests were not invited. Perhaps they tried to reach out for an interview, but the conservatives/Republicans declined those and simply accepted more invitations from Faux News.

Fox, MSNBC, CNN. Seems like an awful waste of time. Cut the cable cord folks, you'll be happier.

C'mon, guys!

Christopher Hitchens, Bill Nye, Richard Dawkins, and various others were on Fox News being interviewed. So, please tell me how often leftist networks have on conservatives?

All the time. You ignorance knows no bounds;

Here is Kellyanne Conway on CNN
Here is Anthony Scaramucci on MSNBC
Here is Steve Bannon on CNBC

Here is my favourite; your golden boy Ben Sapiro being interviewed by a world renowed conservative on the BBC getting his panties in a twist because he doesn't have the balls to answer hard questions. This took me all of five seconds to research. Not only are conservatives being interviewed all the time, so are current and former staff of the trump administration. FOX news never did that for Obama or Clinton. To quote Jon Stewart, FOX news viewers are the most consistently misinformed people on the planet. Considering Alex Jones is still around, that's saying something.

Here’s the thing. Faux news was deliberately created as a right-wing propaganda tool that occasionally included actual news as a means to fool people into thinking its purpose was to provide actual news. That’s why it still has the occasional liberal on. To make fun of them.

Because Republican voters are not well educated, they were more easily duped into watching crap that was carefully crafted to get them to watch (as opposed to what other news organizations had to do; report what was actually happening).

So Murdoch was able to successfully monetize “news” and once that happened, everyone else jumped on the bandwagon and that along with corporate conglomerates buying up every news organization in the country was the death of any but a few die hard news organizations (like the NYT).

There is no (and has never been any) “left wing media.” ALL US media (yes, including MSNBC and the various failed attempts at mirroring Faux to liberals) is, at best, 60/40 right/left leaning and they all now follow the Faux news model of allowing their anchors to express personal bias. Why? Good for ratings.

There are particular shows that will have a steeper bent one way or another, of course, but on average, every mainstream news organization in the country bar none appeals primarily to whatever demographic is going to make them the most money and that means under educated—but still middle class fiscally—white people.

Even the non-mainstream outlets that purport to serve latinos or blacks or women or any other more micro targeted segments still must also include right-leaning content. Why? Because liberals don’t just sit around staring at the same channel all day long the way idiot right wingers do.

And we’re not talking about huge numbers anymore. It used to be that upwards of 30 million people would regularly watch Walter Cronkite every single night. Now even Faux news—the industry leader—is lucky to get more than two million on a regular basis.

Faux News destroyed the industry by making “infotainment” profitable. Now, that’s pretty much all that’s out there.

Wow. They're telling the truth 40% of the time? I did not expect that.

Well, not every fact of reality contradicts conservative ideology, just most of them. After all, facts like "Houston is in Texas" and "Trump went to London" are things that Republicans can accept without disrupting their white supremacist, misogynist, theocratic, anti-science narrative.

FOX was created as a conservative platform. However it is obvious the vast majority of the media was and is liberal.

When Sharpton started on MSNBC he said on air he would never say anything bad about Obama. It was years before MSNBC and CNN began to look at Obama objectively, and then with gloves on.

TV news uswed to be a sevice. I belive there is wording in FCC licensing that requires netwrrks to provide public service.

News was supported from profits of the networks.

Now MSNBC, FOX, and CNN are for profit businesses.

They have to develop followings for on air personalities and sell advertising. Rachael Modox is goofy. At the end of a segment she will go on about some juicy titillating piece of news that will follow after the commercials. Don't touch that dial folks, stay tuned! She is laughable.

On CNN Cuomo tries so hard to be dramatic. When the recording came out of Cohen and Trump he played it over and over and overs saying 'Did you hear that!! Did you hear that!!'.

It is all about self promotion. Anchors promoting their books. Groups of people shouting over each other.

Yes, in right-wing circles Rachel Maddow is referred to as Rachel Mad-Cow.

No, that's not obvious at all. All major media outlet are owned and controlled by a small handful of large corporations who also control most other major industries from energy to agriculture to the war industry. They are run by millionaires and billionaires and largely reflect that bias, along with a bias of profit motive, which means generating click-bait stories involving minimal fact checking and reasoned investigation which cost money. However, to secure a large audience, they generally cannot tell blatant lies most of the time. So, they tend to stick to the truth on basic facts, and since objective reality is the opposite of most conservative beliefs, this can give the impression of a "liberal bias", in the same way that most of science appears to have a "liberal bias", whether on the subject of religion, climate change, homosexuality, the causes of wealth disparities, the causal impact of slavery and historical racism on modern racial issues from crime to educational attainment, etc. IOW, being objective and rational inherently leads to being "liberal" on most issues.

In contrast, Fox's viewership has no regard for reason and objective truth and only wants to hear ideas that advance a far right ideological agenda. Sadly, there are enough such people that Fox can appeal exclusively to them and make a hefty profit. Since that right wing ideology is at odds with most facts, science, and reason, it requires that Fox lie most of the time.

While there certainly are some leftists who prefer blind ideology over reason and objectivity, none of the major media outlets are vying for that sector as hard as Fox is vying for right wing dogmatists. At most, the other major outlets will have a show or two that rivals the dishonest dogma of almost everything on Fox. Those type of outlets that even come close to being a mirror image of Fox News in terms of overall ddishonest dogmatism are limited to smaller online only outlets.

OK, so you found 3 examples in all of the the past 30 years or so.

And that interview with Shapiro was a smear campaign. He kept attacking Ben's character instead of the arguments. OMG Ben said Palestinians are rotten people! What a bigot!

It's not like any atheists have said that Christians are rotten people.

Wow, that was completely backwards on the Shapiro interview. Neil, with every question, addressed things Shapiro has said. It was Shapiro that attacked Neil's character.

I also note that you have complained about how black conservatives are treated when Shapiro did the exact same thing to Jews who voted for Obama.

He's right though. If you call yourself a Jew, but you are not religious, why the hell do you call yourself a Jew?

Do people call themselves "Christian" if they are not religious? No, they don't.

Do you actually read the things you respond to? "Shapiro did the exact same thing to Jews who voted for Obama." I said nothing about Jews who are not religious.
