Saw an article about adding new entries to a database of slogans, symbols, acronyms, etc. used by hate groups. It is supposed to be a tool for helping people recognize the signs when someone flashes a hand sign, or has a tattoo of one of these symbols. Just thought some people here might be interested in the database.

In the US we don't really need any help with this, we've already elected these folks and welcomed them into both our military and law enforcement communities.

So a bunch of racists thought it'd be funny if they pretended that the OK sign was a racist symbol. So they started with it and people caught onto it and now the racists find it funny that people think the OK sign is a racist symbol.

Here's the thing... you are still racist fucks whether you think the sign is symbolic or not, you are just making it easier for us to see who you really are.

When white supremacists create a Tinkerbell effect, and the narratives they drive to mock others for believing them drive behavior to fit the narrative, and then they, what? Mock people for accepting the truth of the reality they created?

And the Proud Boys masturbation pledge?

It's like they don't understand the most basic premise of language: that use in a context DRIVES meaning.

It wasn't a racist hand sign but racists using it in the context of expressing racism made it become one.

I think it less made it a racist symbol, more than it made it a calling card of racists.

What do you think "racist symbol" means in this context? A "calling card" is a symbol. The symbol is a signal for "I'm a racist". Ergo a racist symbol.

I’m probably splitting hairs.
