Woman fatally shot after asking man to stop setting off fireworks

A Brooklyn woman was gunned down when she confronted a man setting off illegal fireworks, police sources said Saturday.

Shatavia Walls, 33, who was peppered with gunfire July 7 after asking the man to stop setting off the explosives, died from her injuries Friday night at Brookdale Hospital, the sources said.

Walls was shot eight times at 1259 Loring Ave. in the Pink Houses around 8:30 p.m. Her companion, Kelvin Hernandez, was also struck, the sources said.

Setting off illegal fireworks is a “nonviolent act,” Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams said last month, urging residents to “go talk to the young people or the people on your block who are using fireworks” instead of calling 911 or 311.

Whatever the method. Giuliani most certainly cleaned up the cesspool that was NYC back then. Look at a picture of then and now. Yea, yea i hear you say. But the authorities are stepping on my freedom to do what i wish you say. But I say you can't have it both ways. You either eliminate crime and the dregs of society or you don't!

The "freedom" in question was to walk, run, stand, or sit in a chair or your porch, without having a cop suddenly jump out of his car, scream "Where the fuck are you going nigger!", shove you into a wall, spread your legs and roughly grab them, screaming more questions all the while, before finally shoving you down the street and screaming a final "You better not be when I get back, nigger!"

Oh, and beating, or choking, you and taking you to jail for a charge like "loitering", "resisting arrest", and the like that you get to stand in a long line, missing school or work, only for the judge to briefly glance at it and immediately throw it out.

Oh, and it could happen again, as you travel back home.

It's not just shaky, it's outright disproven. Crime fell to varying degrees not just in other US cities, but across the developed world, and stayed down when it was theoretically eliminated (which...ehh). There's also no correlation between crime rates and police shootings Even in the US, the police spend roughly 4% of their time investigating violent crime. what there is change matters appears to be the percentage of murderers that end up going to prison (If you're pretty sure you can literally get away with murder, you're more likely to kill) and whether the cops have been egregiously violent in the near past (a bad killing that's quickly prosecuted so long if it's rare, but when the entire force shows up is engulfing entire neighborhoods in tear gas and clubbing whoever they see , confidence plummets, , and people turn to murders instead of dealing with the army of goons)

That's why Cheeto Benito's efforts are doomed - it's yet again a complete misapplication, and these goons will likely just grab people for petty crimes - and would never be trusted by residents, as seen by the Avengers: Endgame response from the citizens. if they move en masse, they can't do much of anything. If they move individually through a city, they'll get mobbed.

What some crime infested cities like NY or San Francisco really need are some inspector Callahan [ Clunk Eastwood] like no nonsense cops for real, brandishing Magnum 44's. It can be done as Mayor, Giuliani cleaned up New York city under his watch to such an extent that taking a stroll in Central Park at night was safe. And left a clean and almost crime free city. Compare NY then to the cesspool it's become now.

But the fact remains that most crimes are committed by African/Americans and Hispanics as per head of population. One can reduce their chances of getting shot to almost zero if they're law abiding citizens.

That's the rule, not the exception. US Cops have no problem putting 75 year olds into hospital or driving into protesters It's their job, apparently. Personally, I am amazed that a nation so casual about distribution of weapons that soldiers on D-Day would be envious of hasn't escalated into absolute chaos.

Australia made jokes and it became a pop culture reference about Victorian Police throughout the 90's. And the shit Victorian coppers were responsible for wouldn't even fill a Tuesday Report for the average American police officer. It's beyond fucked. You are simply ignorant.

One does have to wonder how our government affords and has the rights to police and kill locals in Afganistan. Yet can not even obtain the necessary tools for crowd control in Seattle Washington (part of the interior of the United States). Regardless of our current effectiveness in Seattle, would it not at least make sense to pull out of another part of the world and get control of our own country first??????????

With regards to defunding the police, that might actually be a good idea as put forward by the OP. But term "defunding the police" should be modified to something more accurate IMO. Because otherwise when you watch a riot on tv while the announcer talks about defunding the police there becomes a state of cognitive dissonance.
