Jamaal Bowman Wants to Reimagine the Democratic Party

The Root said:
“I believe our current system of capitalism is slavery by another name,” he said. “We’ve moved from physical chattel enslavement and physical racial segregation to a plantation economic system. One that keeps the majority of Americans unemployed, or underemployed and struggling just to survive, while the power elite continues to concentrate wealth in the hands of a few, and allow large corporations to pretty much run the world as multinational corporations. The pandemic has revealed it. With almost 300,000 dead from the pandemic, disproportionately Black and brown, and Jeff Bezos is the first $200 billionaire. In the next six years, he might become the first trillionaire. That’s slavery by another name. It’s a system that’s not working, so we need a new system.”

In addition to being a ridiculous claim on its face, Bowman put out quite a few blatant falsehoods - unchallenged by his Root interlocutors btw. - in a feeble attempt to back up his outrageous claims.

No, Recruit Bowman, a "majority of Americans" is not "unemployed, or underemployed and struggling just to survive". Median (meaning half are below it and half are above) household income is over $60k and median personal income is ~$36k. But when have facts ever mattered to socialists?

"The power elite continues to concentrate wealth in the hands of a few, and allow large corporations to pretty much run the world as multinational corporations"
Earth to Jamaal - you are part of the "power elite" now. Or at least you will be come Sunday.
Large corporations do not "pretty much" run the world. Otherwise EU would not be able to put all those restrictions on Facebook and Google for example. Not to mention what countries like China are doing.

Jeff Bezos with a trillion dollar net worth within 6 years? Even if he doesn't spend big bucks on ventures like a moon base by then (and he definitely should do something like that!), quintupling his wealth - which is mostly tied up in Amazon stock - within the next six years would require an annual growth of Amazon stock of almost 30%. If he really thinks there is any likelihood of that happening, he really should invest himself.

He is as much an extremist as the likes of Louie Gohmert on the other side.

Idiots are as entitled to representation in Congress as everyone else, and if they prefer to be represented by one of their own, that is their right.
