So, we need to seriously send in the national guard with the army corps of engineers, else expect the electric company to fix things (they are the ones who turned it off on purpose), and get power back on.

None of Texas was built for this shit.

This is a crisis, and the Texas government is dropping the ball. There has been no power for quite some time now. People are dying and something needs to be done about this.

Biden has gotten his first natural disaster with a human cost. Let's see how he handles it.

Free market based energy production industry failed to account for extreme weather to save money. And i do wonder who decided that the texas electrical grid would intentionally be cut off from the rest of the country...

Since the issue is that the extreme cold has frozen the machinery that makes energy because industry chose not to build for extreme cold, what would national guard troops do? Hang bottled gas powered blow dryers on wind turbines?

By that token I could conclude human brains are nonfunctional by pointing to the geniuses who decided to isolate Texas to its own grid.

The reality, of course, is that countries like Canada, Denmark, and Sweden all use wind power as well. Maybe we should be importing the commie wind generators

They would cart in very large generators that we used to power our bases in countries we are not waging war in currently. There are many, and are maintained for deployment.

My unit had several. I am sure that the national guard has many. It can be a team effort.

We should use the generators our country has bought and maintained for war and use them to keep the lights on while the grid gets rebuilt.

And hey, it's all diesel powered! Just what Texas loves.

And that's just one thing.

They can do water trucks too.

Yes, Toupee Fiasco is a willfully ignorant shill ("windmills cause cancer" is up there with "5G chemical radiation causes COVID-19" in terms of foolish nonsense), and Daily Fail is worthless. We know.

Despite the swipes at GOPers who mocked California's power outages, and Texas' highly gerrymandered government fully dropping the ball, it's really not a guarantee that democrats would have winterized Texas' homes, power plants, and water supply (apparently water pipes are closer to the surface than in areas that expect cold winters - mainlines freeze up, nobody gets water, pipes may burst, etc.). But as climate change gets worse, the destabilized polar vortex bringing terrible cold further south will be more common, so it's something the country will need to address.

And the end result is people who aren't used to cold weather, dealing with an infrastructure that can't handle it. That's a serious problem that leads to hypothermia, house fires, CO poisoning from people trying to stay warm, and so forth. I'm glad that Biden has declared a state of emergency, but the Corp of Engineers at least ready to go is a good idea.

I'm just here to show my appreciation for Texas taking attention off Florida. Texas is one of two states offering us annual support. Love you Texas! Keep up the good work!

Edit: California is the second state in case anyone is curious. They provide us Floridians with more support than Texas. I'd also like to say Oklahoma is in third place with an honorable mention to Alabama. Love all yall man. For real for real.

So most of Texas is without power. And somehow we are expected to believe Texas is almost entirely reliant on green energy, and that is to blame. So when did liberals take over Texas and force them to use green energy?

Kinda my point. I don't know what any politicians have been saying or doing. I just know my friend are suffering and it's a story to be told.

This is where I go to tell other people what I think must be done about things like this. It's the limit of my real power, that and voting. Maybe other people say these things. I hope other people say them. They should be said, and that is why I say them.

Maybe someone with money or power or some platform actually darkens this corner of the internet. Maybe someone here darkens slightly brighter doorways. Eyes see these words, so I believe it has value. A response is necessary, and I'll be cross with the administration if they drop the ball here. I don't think they will, though they juggle many.

It is good that Biden declared it an emergency. I wonder if Republicans like Ted Cruz will remember that the next time a Blue state has a natural disaster. I wonder if the Trump crime family will remember their unwillingness to send federal help to blue states when Mar-a-lago is flattened by hurricane.

They will blame the democrats for not rebuilding it for them brick by brick, this time actually to code.

Anyway, some collective response, be it FEMA controlling the Corps of Engineers, or something. But we really ought send in the generators to get heat back on. Burst pipes are a huge issue right now, and water is off across much of the state. I know our army can deploy huge amounts of water, and we should focus on getting it to areas outside cities. Food aid is going to be important.

We should have done as much for Puerto Rico. Let the texas power companies pay for it.

This is a well-traveled road in red/blue state politics. After Hurricane Sandy devastated the East Coast in 2012, including horrible damage in NYC, Republicans had a fit over the relief bill and many voted against it, including 20 Texas Congressmen. The bill passed anyway. Five years later, Hurricane Harvey slammed into the Gulf Coast, inundating Houston, and these same Texans were then pushing for a relief bill -- and got it, with support from representatives of some of the same areas they'd cut dead before.

Maybe this is what gets coronavirus over the line? Texas relief?

Edit: would republicans filibuster coronavirus relief with Texas aid in it?

Conservative critics blamed the power outages on a failure of green energy, but that doesn't explain the problem. Wind and solar generate about only 21 percent of the state's electrical power. Instead, natural gas, which powers half the state's electrical generation — by far the largest source — was in use by home furnaces, and some power plants couldn't get enough.

Who cares about facts though.

I do hope we can help them. Seems like FEMA and Engineer Corps should be on the road already.

I'm in Texas, fifty miles directly south from Dallas in Corsicana. Parts of the town have no power, parts do. Gas stove tops have kept my apartment warm though I dont use them while I sleep.
