McFarland won her third Oscar last night. In general, who wins Oscars isn't too important. After all, Denzel Washington has won only one Oscar. I mean WTF?! Good guy, bad buy, antagonist... he can play anything, and pretty much has... except Smoochie.

But McFarland joins rare company with her third Oscar. McFarland has been hitting homeruns recently in her films, and in general has had a wonderful acting career. She is also one of the rare Hollywood types that hasn't denied aging!

Meryl Streep has only two leading Oscars, Sophie's Choice and Iron Lady. Oscars being Oscars, she really should have won it for Julie/Julia. Her physical and vocal performance was short of nothing but perfect and she disappears in the film to the character, a very rare gift.

But McFarland has three to Streep's two leading. Honestly, I don't get her Oscar for Kramer v Kramer... she is barely in it! Only Katherine Hepburn has four, Morning Glory (which seemed to be a film solely about advertising that she could act perfectly... the movie really has no other purpose... it was more an audition for an Oscar), back to back with Guess Who's Coming to Dinner and The Lion In Winter (which they could have just air dropped Oscar's over the set for anyone involved (Hepburn, O'Toole, Dalton, Hopkins)... though scenery chewing probably would be reasonable complaint), and On Golden Pond (a film I haven't seen and likely a desperate moment for Hollywood to finally give Henry Fonda a damn statute, Grapes of Wrath hello?! it was one of the only movies he acted in, instead of being calm straight character over and over).

Bette Davis falls under Streep, having been screwed for not even being nominated for Of Human Bondage. She has just the two Oscars, but she also has 1939, where she didn't win jack, but starred in four films with two iconic performance (Dark Victory and Elizabeth).

Honestly, I think we all know Bette Davis would win in a knife fight. She was quite shrewd. But assuming Davis isn't included, McFarland, Streep, Hepburn in a knife fight? Any other fighters?

Fonda played a pretty good bad guy in Once Upon a Time in the West.

Don’t get me wrong. I like Henry Fonda, it is just his characters often had a similar flavor. Somewhat, but not as bad, like Clark Gable. I loved his drunk scene in The Male Animal.

I would love to see Seth and Meryl have a knife fight.

Francis would kick both their asses.

You mean this actor? Darn right he would!

I'm a latecomer to this pool, but... someone thinks Spanky of Our Gang would throw down with Meryl? No. Spanky was a lover, not a fighter. But Chubby Chaney... he would pin Meryl to the dirt in one body slam, then twist her ankle around full circle 'til she cried uncle and got him a 3 Musketeers.
