Controversial Prophet Muhammad artist dies in mysterious car crash

A Swedish artist who survived a series of assassination attempts after drawing the Prophet Muhammad as a dog has died in a mysterious high-speed crash.

Lars Vilks, 75, had been living under around-the-clock police protection since the 2007 drawing of the Muslim founder fueled death threats and direct attempts on his life.

He died Sunday when the police car he was traveling in crashed head-on with a truck on a highway near Markaryd, Swedish officials said.

The car — driven by one of his bodyguards — veered across a guardrail and onto the wrong lanes of the highway, bursting into flames, as did the truck it smashed headfirst into, officials said.

Vilks and his two plainclothes officers all died at the scene.

Proving once again that Allah is an asshole...

So what's your point? Are you saying that Vilks' death was instigated by Allah to avenge Vilks drawing Muhammad? Religious people do tend to interpret the misfortune of a perceived enemy of the faith as God's revenge or punishment. If a respected member of the faith encounters misfortune, on the other hand, it is seen as an example of how the faithful must often suffer in their service to God. So it appears that it is difficult to distinguish how God deals with his followers versus his enemies when the fates of the two are often identical.

If you ask me, tragedy is just a matter of bad luck.

Cable barrier... designed to stop tractor trailers with full load... can't stop a sedan?

The grassy knoll. Was there a grassy knoll with a shadowy figure near the accident and a book repository?

As Freud said, smoothness a head on collision with a truck is just an accident.

It's not that mysterious. Nobody in Sweden thinks this was anything but an accident. There's plenty of evidence to suggest it was just an accident. Vilks was also super old and frail. Why kill him now?

try driving though a cable barrier.

It was an armored car. Ie a tank. I don't think a cable barrier would offer any resistance to that. I know it didn't. Because that's what happened. It went through it like butter

Lars Vilks is an awesome guy though. Such an epic troll. He constructed a work of art (Nimis) in a nature reserve in Skåne. Only out of material found in the nature reserve. Breaking an idiotic law. Knowing Sweden and Swedish law this is such an epic trolling. The government didn't know how to behave, so it stayed. Also... he was famous. So the work of art was valuable, as well as being a tourist attraction.

After the Muhammed Cartoons Lars Vilks was invited to speak at the "Stop Islamisation of Nations" conference. An extreme right wing conference. He accepted. And just trolled the shit out of them.

The guy was a fucking hoot. I love him so much. He will be missed. Sweden isn't exactly blessed with people who speak up

Depends on the type of barrier and various factors like the inertia of the car and the incidence angle of the impact. In the US, typical cable stayed median barriers are designed to redirect impacting traffic back to the correct side of the barrier without allowing it to cross to the opposing lanes. But they don't work (well) if the incidence angle is too low - as in a head-on impact. They also work with 18-wheeler trucks (tractor-trailer semis), as long as the incidence angle is within limits and the truck is following speed limits.

sounds intentional then...
No, it doesn't. It sounds like there's no evidence. For whatever reason the car, alone at night, suddenly swerves over into the opposite side of the road, through a cable barrier and has a frontal collision with a large truck. If it was the truck that swerved over the road in front of the police car, then there would be reason to be suspicious. But that's not what happened. An armored car weighs 4.5 tonnes. At full speed it can drive through a cable barrier as if it wasn't there.

Witnesses seeing the car driving by say the car travelled at 160 km/h. Which was 40 km/h above the speed limit. This is seen as improbable by the police since they were in no hurry and the cops driving have to follow protocol. They would have been fired if spotted by other cops. The cops were in near constant communication with police operators. No reason to travel above the speed limit was reported in. This is the only weird detail about this.

I don't know what the truck was transporting, but it was flammable. Everybody involved in the accident died.

The going theory by the police is that the tire of the armored car blew out and the driver lost control. I think it sounds reasonable.

It's not like the police hasn't looked at this. This is a high interest target. The police have been all over this and given it all the attention you'd expect of a potential terror attack.

The fact remained that Lars Vilks was at this point old and frail and would likely drop dead of natural causes at any moment. This would be the world's most unnecessary assassination attempt. It doesn't make his death less sad. But there's no need to put on our tin foil hat this time.

oh bullshit DrZ.
the post I was replying to said the blah point was so acute that trauma was not avoided.
