However, vaccine plus proper mask use would stop it. I see more misuse than proper use, though.

I think the vaccine alone WOULD HAVE been enough if everyone had just gotten it. Yes, I understand that, under current conditions, we need the mask, but a city NEAR me has already been able to relax the mask mandate whereas my own city's numbers are still too high. I think that people's refusal to get the vaccine is at least a contributor to the fact that we still have to wear the damn masks.

Before Delta a quick look would say the vaccine alone would have been enough, but it wouldn't have worked because it wasn't approved for children yet. Children associate with other children, providing a pool that would support the virus.

Well, that does complicate matters. I am only rarely seeing anti-maskers in the area, though. While shy of perfect, Raleigh is not terrible for that.

The more people that refuse to comply, though, the longer the rest of us are going to have to wear them. I have a physically exhausting occupation, so it's not like I am wearing these things for recreation.

Have you noticed how petulant-looking anti-maskers look? They always look angry. It's like the phenomenon where the only people that play their music loud enough for other people to hear it tend to have terrible taste in music.

I'm so sick of "gain of function" bs on the Internet. You give some people a term and they just won't shut up about it. It was like when the nuclear incident happened in Japan and all of a sudden tens of millions of people became experts in nuclear physics. Covid-19 has been acting like a virus that is new in a species. It affects some more than others, we'll figure out at some point what the likely reason for that is. But Sen. Paul just has to Rand Paul it in the Senate... so he can be Rand Paul.

Yep! I looked at the video (though I've seen at least parts of it before). I most certainly wouldn't claim to know why Dr. Fauci bent his head down, but I would far more suspect he was working on composure (while mentally working on how to deal with a raving powerful man on live camera) in this situation.
