This trailer from 2019 had amazing graphics:

But recently someone released actual gameplay footage.... (though they had it on low to medium detail settings)

YouTube - Talking to Mary - blurry textures, no lip movements.....

YouTube - Talking to John the Baptist - graphics problems, no lip movements

This is what the fight with Satan was meant to look like:

satan.jpg

In this gameplay footage the fight with Satan was too difficult (the player couldn't complete it) and it had a horrible framerate:

YouTube - fighting a little fire in the sky ("Satan")

YouTube - defeating Satan (no sound)

Some parts have much better graphics but they seem to be pre-rendered....

YouTube - John the Baptist cinematics

A clue is it fades from one scene to another - it is unlikely that would be a real-time gameplay effect..... also it is completely non-interactive....

Bit boring to play a game you know the end of though, yeah?
Meh. There's more than one industry for people to refight battles in wars that have long been decided. Wargaming and reenactment. Someone always thinks they could have done better at Stirling, Arnhem, Cannae, ... Gethsemane

Ah, but would anyone want to play a game where you can only fight Waterloo as the French, and there's no win condition?

Yes.

Reenactors.

They can get quite testy if you suggest changing from the historical tactics to win the battle 'this time.'

I bet even re-enactors would get pretty bored with a video game built the same way this one is. It's fun to insist on accuracy where inacuracy is an option. It's not fun to play a game which is, for all intents and purposes, a pageant.

Though lots of people like watching Harry Potter movies even if they've read the books before.

If you think the ending (Jesus rising to Heaven) is boring then what about his first mission? As Jesus you have to ask about a dozen people in the markets about where you can find John the Baptist:

YouTube - in the markets

And before you can go to John the Baptist you are hungry and need to find berries to eat:

YouTube - looking for berries

YouTube - fasting in the desert - "You are starving and must head to each Prayer Location indicated by the God Rays and pray in order to survive in the desert!"

Still sounds terrible. At least in Harry Potter you're on the winning team. Jesus keeps losing right up until the final cut scene.

Also, who taught these people? Fasting is not the same thing as starving. Are they worried their kids will turn Catholic if they found out Jesus was an ascetic?

Actually in the trailer you also roll away the stone from the tomb... so you have victory over "death". But anyway the actual game looks terrible too.

This is a special kind of fasting that requires you to pray at different "prayer locations" in order to survive. Perhaps Jesus is different to regular people - after all he had to also feed on some berries because he was too hungry to see John the Baptist....

After the last two years of certain demographics clearly demonstrating their complete inability to go without instant satisfaction of all desires, i'd say, yes, very likely.
That scene in Name Of The Rose? The Cardinal whose robes would violate many sumptuary laws says, "By saying Christ was poor, you're saying The Church should be poor." Clearly an intolerable intrusion on his comforts.

Some interesting comments from a Christian messageboard about this game:
any depictions of God is more than distasteful, it is pure idolatry (see Exodus 20:4-6).

Now, if that had the Acts of the Apostles, that may be interesting! There are ways of avoiding the depictions of Christ, especially with Paul's vision. Especially if you added dialogue.
Any depictions of Jesus is wrong,IMHO.
that's not a humble opinion, that a humble FACT!
I wouldn't play it and I don't think it would be right to play. Thou shall not tempt the Lord thy God.

If you want to experience what Christ experienced, come to the Holy Week celebrations.
Stuff like this in media has existed for a very long time. I'd recommend staying away from it.
The people behind the game are known trolls.
Probably won't be as sacrilegious as the game Bible Fight.

(If you haven't heard of Bible Fight, look it up. I'd post the game, but I don't want to get modded.)
As an artist I have been very wary of painting Jesus. I tried once and I felt that I just can’t do it. It didn’t make justice for Him. And trying to do the impossible wasn’t for me, I knew I could never do it. Im very very wary when it comes people presenting their artistic view about Jesus. No matter the medium. I wouldn’t play a game which has Jesus in it. I wouldn’t buy a painting of Jesus unless it looks completely divine. (Propably not going to happen) I have problems to digest some of the pictures I have seen in lutheran church so..

I think it can really fast turn into mockery, if you know what I mean.

Sorry I don’t want to even look that game but it’s just me.

Ran into a portrait of Jesus as a middle easterner, perhaps?

Ugh... This is just... I'd have a better time shitting in my pants and having to sit in it than to play that claptrap.

If I have to play a game where the main character comes back from the dead, I'll play Planescape Torment.

Even Pacman and Space Invaders involved multiple lives... (though they don't involve reusing the same body)

I guess my original post wasn't clear enough but the real problem isn't the first video - the actual gameplay is far, far more horrible.

e.g. an overly difficult battle with a ball of fire ("Satan") with horrible framerates..... YouTube link

Well it turns out that the graphics are quite good...

Here is a screenshot of the footage shown when John 1:14 is being narrated....

While I like PC games and play them every day, I'm a bit disappointed that the people in a forum about religious issues prefer to spend time talking about those games than to debate and discuss religious issues.

Games are more fun than religion.

I think religious games are relevant to religion. In post #11 Christians didn't like the idea of a game involving Jesus for religious reasons - this was in the gaming forum of their message boards. I've found many religious problems with this game - especially about Jesus being tempted in the desert where he has to fight a ball of fire ("Satan") over a ground filled with lava.

OK, but nothing related to Christianity was mentioned in the OP aside from the game's title. When I'm in a forum meant to discuss religious issues I tend to want to discuss religious issues many of which are very important to society. I just wish people would post material in forums that is relevant to what the forum's about. Facts and valid logic are really good too. Would you start a thread in a gaming forum about religion?
