This is a video of MSNBC's Joy Reid speaking about Sen Josh Hawley's coffee mugs.

I once worked with a community theater director who regularly wore a T-shirt with a big Chinese symbol on the back.

I asked him once if he knew what it meant.
He grinned and said, "I bought it in Chinatown. It translates literally to 'Fucking Americans will buy anything"

Not even remotely on point. The alt-right has successfully normalized an invasion of the Capitol to protest a fairly held election that was blatantly lied about by around half the GOP. Our democracy is nearing life support.

The GOP has restricted access to voting to protect from wide scale voter fraud that isn’t happening, protecting children from teachers making them gay (again not happening) and from shaming white students (again not happening). We have a party that is effectively governing a nation that doesn’t exist,

The coffee mug is a microcosm of the GQP: irrational rhetoric and cult leaders backed up with something unexpected once you look at the actual documentation. There is no longer room for parody, imagine trying, labeling the mug "Fist Pumps for Jesus" or something, but the followers would refrain "Hell Yeah." No, it wouldn't work. We are at a point of a surreal debate among conservatives over actual coup swag, with one guy trying to become a cult leader advertising the swag and a cult rival pointing out it's made in China. To pass the conservative purity test, your xenophobia must be well-documented and shown at a moment's notice: "Your violent coup advocacy coffee mug didn't say Made in America on the bottom!"
