Not a fan.

I don’t feel like the athletes should be punished for what their country is doing. Banning doped athletes can be argued on the merits, as can insisting that they don’t fly the Russian banner. But the talk about the Russian para athletes didn’t feel justified.

Thoughts?

Opera singers too, should be free to have their opinion, or not have, or have it but choose to keep it to themselves.
Right now, you seems to be demanding people to publicly support Ukraine.
That's what Ukraine have been actually doing for a long time, actively demanding to give their opinion and then ban based on that.

I do not understand your reply Barbos. It doesn’t seem to relate to what I posted.
For example, you are claiming that I am “demanding” something.

???

You means "West"

The West behaves worse than Russia as far as suppression of public opinion goes.
You started banning news sources and people for merely not supporting your point of view.

Yes, it's a thread about retaliation against ordinary russian citizens or not even citizens.

I feel that you haven’t read the thread. You are not making any sense.

Gotta say, while I'm sympathetic to Ukrainians and Russia is acting like a bully, the rapid dehumanization and cancellation of anyone or thing Russian is embarrassing and stupid. We gotta lighten up.

What not-Russian-citizens are being mentioned? Can you point to the post where Rhea hurt opera singers who aren't citizens of Russia?

Dude, stop trying to be pedantic when you lose your point.

West doing way worse things than banning athletes from competing.
I am, actually, kinda OK with "banning" athletes. It's simply stupid theater to have polish footballers playing against russian team. Of course they are not going to play.

What I am surprised at is Wests attempts to suppress any kind of dissent from official narrative. What are you afraid of?

On way to roil an autocracy is to rile up the citizenry. This particular action seems petty, but if the goal is to isolate Russia, every little bit helps.
Totally agree. Yea, I feel so bad for the Ukranians. We finally spoke with our family friends who lives in Ukraine. I've spoken of this in the other thread. He and his wife have two young kids. He's an accountant. Never fired a weapon in his life. They fled Kyiv. He got his family to the border. Then he returned to fight. How long do you think he'll last against trained Russian soldiers? His wife and kids are looking for shelter right fucking now. And it started to snow. All the hardships that they are enduring. And we can't in the west simply avoid Russian athletic event or an opera? Yea, I'm fucking sorry, I'm boycotting anything Russian until they stop killing people.

Because when your government is destroying a neighboring nation and slaughtering its citizens, all nonviolent means should be applied to stop this as soon as possible. This of course includes pressuring the citizens of the offending country to defy its government. When a nation’s citizens are filled with propaganda from cradle to grave to obscure the offenses of their government, more benevolent nations must make clear that what the offensive government is doing is wrong, terribly wrong.
So yes, when a government whitewashes for its citizens the atrocities it is committing, it is the duty of all other nations to do their part to make clear to those citizens something terribly wrong is happening.
So no sports, no opera, no Toyotas from Japan, no iPhones from the US, no clothing from Sweden, no shipping containers from Denmark.

Etceteras

Just trying to see where the fuck you think your point is.

Oh! You're distracting from what we're doing by invoking...what we're doing...?
Man, you even suck at whataboutism

I think you muss the point. You may have missed a critical word in the OP. I'd point it out, but i don't want to be a pedanterast.

Lies are not 'dissent,' dude.
And we don't havd to be afraid of propaganda to limit it.

Boy they fucked up bad. Really bad. Allowed another psycho sociopath to ascend to rule them, just as they have done for centuries.
Now, this one is committing war crimes like the rest of them, but it's the age of the iPhone and he isn't getting away with it like his forebears.
So the world is outraged, and the world (other than N Korea and a couple other despot's nations) is punishing Russia because Russians won't punish the monster they've been feeding for 22 years.
So suck it up, buttercup; in the very near future you're not going to be any better off then your brothers and sisters who were Ukranians. And it's not because of The Mythical West, barbos. It's on you.
IT'S ALL ON YOU.
And especially you (singular) as Putin apologist.;
