You have to prove citizenship to vote. ID + birth certificate. Oops--that doesn't work for women who took their husband's name. They'll either need a passport (something the majority of Americans do not have) or a legal name change.

This is so extreme I suspect they didn't realize the problem.

Welcome to Gilead.

Huh? Didn’t realize?? According to the article that is the point! To disenfranchise women, who typically vote Democratic. They don’t care if they also disenfranchise Republican women, as long as they disenfranchise more Democratic women.

You think the above is extreme?

The 2024 election is in danger: 40,000 self-proclaimed vigilante vote-fraud hunters have already challenged the rights of 851,000 voters of color. Investigative reporter Greg Palast hunts down the MAGA vigilantes — including one dressed like Doc Holliday with his loaded 6-guns — who blocked the vote of 4,000 Black soldiers.

And how do the authors discern intent? This is far enough beyond anything they've pulled before that I expect oversight rather than malice.

Thom Hartmann on the Palast movie Vigilantes. Palast is the guest. Less than 15 minutes.

Given the shenanigans they’ve been up to lately I think it is naive to consider this a bug and not a feature. Perhaps I’m just more jaded than you but it’s not outside the realm of likelihood to me.

The thing is things will normally basically fit in with the crowd. This is far more extreme than their other stuff. I can see them doing it in 2025 but I don't think they would intentionally do this before the election.
