Farley Mowat was a nature writer, and one of his books is A Whale for the Killing. The situation he covers in the book -- the plight of a whale trapped in a small cove, being shot at by satanically evil people (and their young-uns) got me so incensed that I had to stop reading the book. I stopped at page 104 -- I still have the paperback, and my bookmark is in it -- and I doubt if I'll ever return to it. This was maybe 15 years ago. I wanted to time travel back to the event he reported on and do serious damage to the people he described. Altogether a damaging experience in reading.
Also the Bible, because when I got as far as Judges, I just couldn't dredge up the interest to keep reading. I really should read the whole book, though -- I've already read all the violent and smutty stuff.
