California Doing California Things

Swalwell officially resigns from congress

Eric Swalwell has officially left Congress, announcing in a statement that his resignation took effect at 2pm ET on Tuesday. The beleaguered lawmaker said that he would work with his staff to ensure that his constituents’ needs are met in the coming days. This comes after another accuser, Lonna Drewes, alleged that Swalwell drugged and raped her in 2018. The California representative was facing an expulsion vote had he not stepped down today.

So during the height of the #metoo frenzy, where women were encouraged to come forward with exactly these types of scenarios, this woman couldn’t come forward? A little odd in my opinion.
That reflects as much in “your opinion” as it does on Ms Drewes.

At a press conference in Los Angeles, Drewes accused Eric Swalwell on Tuesday of drugging her and raping her in 2018.
“On the third occasion, I believe he drugged my drink,” Drewes said. “I only had one glass of wine.”
She went on to detail that he allegedly raped her and choked her, and she lost consciousness.
“I did not consent to any sexual activity,” she said.

The incident happened in 2018 and only now she brings it to light?
I'm willing to guess that the majority of rape cases, that aren't out of the blue stranger cases, never come to light.
So during the height of the #metoo frenzy, where women were encouraged to come forward with exactly these types of scenarios, this woman couldn’t come forward? A little odd in my opinion.
Response like that are one reason why they never come forth ever.

Why didn't you come forward about it immediately? Why are you only talking about it now? Did you only stay quiet because you wanted the job? She let him fuck her to get ahead and now that she has what she wanted, she can do this. A little odd in my opinion.

Why didn't you come forward about it immediately?

This incident allegedly happened at the height of the #metoo/#believewomen frenzy, so yeah, it's a legit question. She may have her reasons if it actually happened as she claims. These are very serious allegations she has made and as much as I don't like Swalwell, he is innocent until proven guilty.

THIS WOMAN IS CLEARLY A LYING WHORE! IF SHE CAN'T PROVIDE THREE KINDS OF PROOF SHE SHOULD GO TO JAIL FOR IMPUGNING THIS MAN'S HONOR!!!

ALSO, why don't more women feel comfortable accusing their employers of rape? We're so reasonable about it!
What are you talking about? Swallwell's career has been utterly destroyed just based on uncorroborated accusations.
Then you have your answer. Most women don't report, because most men are like you. You hear that four women have accused the same man of rape, and you think, wow! How does that guy know so many dishonest harlots?
"Most men."

1. If you want to be taken seriously, then you need to stop with that insulting nonsense.

2. If you ever wonder how the DNC pushes millions of voters away, your statement is an excellent example of why.

It's not open season on white heterosexual men and their families anymore. That bullshit arose following Obama's reelection when far too many liberals thought it the end of American conservatism. They sabotaged an entire nation by vociferously going after everyone who wasn't one of them, which turned out to be catastrophic for the entire nation.

Reasonable people can only hope that the Woke movement's rotting corpse will be long buried by 2028.

No, it isn't a legit question as to why she didn't head up to the mountaintops a la Julie Andrews and shout out that her boss raped her because you think it was a convenient time to do so.

Don't know if you read the news, but you are definitely out of step with the public on this. The most common response to Swalwell stepping down is "good" followed by something along the lines of "at least the Democrats are not being hypocritical about this". Only a few people, all of them men, follow that up with "funny timing!" or other such jabs. Pro-rape politics are not nearly as popular as they used to be, and the Democrats are prudent, not foolish, to keep pace with the public mood.

Women's bodies are not yours to use without their consent.

If the condition for their success is that political literacy ("wokeness") exists only as a "corpse", what good does it do us to have the Democrats in charge? Out civil liberties will die slower under Democrat rule, yes, but if denying the existence of discrimination and inequality is a key dogma of both parties, true democratic governance is imperiled no matter who wins elections.

I thought Swalwell was regarded as a rising star in the DNC despite rumors. Now all of a sudden it's "good riddance".

Funny old game, politics.

Because he was revealed to have sexually harassed multiple women, yes. Just like when César Chavez was revealed to be a rapist and child abuser, the DNC was quick to abandon his legacy despite having championed it for decades, renaming holidays and streets and parks all across the nation in repudiation of those crimes.

The difference between Republicans and Democrats is that when you find out your politicians are criminals, you circle around to defend them against "lies" and "attacks". We don't.

Because he was revealed to have sexually harassed multiple women, yes.

From what I have read so far, he had a bit of a reputation for "hitting on" women which certainly makes him a creep in my view. But that doesn't seem to have prevented his ascent.

The admission by Senator Ruben Gallego that he had heard, but disbelieved, rumors about Eric Swalwell and women showed the attitude on Capitol Hill toward men accused of behaving badly. Senator Ruben Gallego, Democrat of Arizona, acknowledged on Tuesday that he had long heard rumors that Representative Eric Swalwell was “flirty” with women, but had allowed his longtime friendship with the California Democrat to cloud his judgment and never said or did anything about it.

Are you saying that something should have been done about Swalwell sooner?

Quit moving the goalposts (and making eye rolling assumptions). You said "most men.." in your post. It was your assertion, so prove it. I wasn't defending Sewell. I took issue with your gross, unfounded generalization.

Not really because I don't know what is true and what is false at this point or who in the DNC knew what, if anything he was up to. I will wait and see what happens as time goes on.

Ah, so unfounded generalizations = "political literacy."

Got it.

And yet again with the laughable straw man that anyone who disagrees with extremist leftists = "...denying the existence of discrimination and inequality..."

What's especially and sadly ironic is that liberals like you have such a loud voice, which ends up retarding progress. You make the entire left an easy target. If the Woke movement wanted to push people to the center and keep others at home, congratulations to them. They've been quite successful. It turns out that bashing 60-70% of the electorate was a great way to get Trump elected twice.

I might pause a bit if I heard that a politician was known as, say, a womanizer, or as having a girl in every port, that sort of thing. Or owned a networks of tv shows that are known for sexually exploiting young women, for instance. That's a last-minute #metoo situation just waiting to happen. But I still wouldn't demand that they be barred from a political campaign. Still less for a "flirty reputation", that could mean a lot of things, most of them not illegal or even immoral. Flirting is fine, by itself, it isn't a harassment unless it becomes a pattern of unreciprocated and unwanted sexual overtures.

So centrists, rather than growing up and taking some measure responsibility for the wellbeing of their democracy, chose to abandon their supposed party and throw their weight behind a neo-fascist egotist instead.

How's that working out for them? Are you happy? Healthy? Content, in this madman's world? If the best centrist Democrats can offer us is conciliation to a dictatorship, presided over by the celebrity buffoon who leads the opposing party, I have no interest in discussing their political views.

In fact, if anyone is struggling to decide whether or not to vote for Donald Trump should he illegally run two years from now, or outright plans to do so, having seen all that he has done and what it has cost us and the world... I dunno, man. I'm willing to talk to them, but it's unlikely we have anything meaningful in common, whether they have a (D) or and (R) after their name.
