When I was a college-age kid I had an older cousin, an Existentialist, who mentored me. "Existence precedes essence," he would say repeatedly in response to my musings. At the time I wasn't sure what that meant. These days I understand it as an answer to Plato and much of philosophy since Plato.

At least when we were kids, catching a glimpse of someone's underwear was hilarious. "I see England, I see France. I see x's underpants."
Didn't Jesus rent his cloak when he got angry, or maybe in mourning, or maybe I am thinking of some other biblical figure? I know the veil of the temple was rent, but I don't think anyone was wearing it.
