A smoking gun: The feds are stealing supplies

Well, the good news is I was lucky enough to get an email, not even solicited, from a Nigerian Prince. I gave him some of my financial information and I am awaiting the arrival of 10 gross of toilet paper at my home.

Feds swooped in on Colorado's ventilator order, Polis says
Colorado was making a deal with a manufacturer for an order of much-needed ventilators when the Federal Emergency Management Agency swooped in and took it themselves, Gov. Jared Polis told CNN on Friday night.

...
Prior to Polis’ comments, CNN reported that Colorado had an order canceled for 500 ventilators, among other supplies, because the items were being bought by FEMA. A congressional source told CNN that Colorado was told it was not on the priority list and the state would have to find its own supplies.

...
On Saturday, the governor and a collection of local government agencies released a letter addressed to Colorado’s congressional delegation in Washington, requesting $500 billion be included in the next federal stimulus package to help state and local governments fight the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Editorial: Trump is playing a political game with our lives during coronavirus
President Donald Trump is treating life-saving medical equipment as emoluments he can dole out as favors to loyalists. It’s the worst imaginable form of corruption — playing political games with lives. For the good of this nation during what should be a time of unity, he must stop.
This is Sen. Cory Gardner, R-CO:

Cory Gardner on Twitter: ".@RealDonaldTrump has approved National Guard assistance in Colorado in response to #COVID19, following the request of members of the Colorado congressional delegation. The CONG1860 will now able to be used by the @GovofCO for state COVID-19 response efforts." / Twitter

Barbados says U.S. blocked 20 ventilators needed for COVID-19 | Miami Herald
In a live broadcast of a national briefing Sunday, Health Minister Lt. Col Jeffrey Bostic said that 20 ventilators purchased by a philanthropist had been “seized” in the U.S.

But not long after stories from island media outlets went online detailing his comments, the Daily Nation in Barbados published an article walking back Bostic’s allegation. The paper reported that hours after Bostic made the claim during a live broadcast, and after interview requests from the Miami Herald, he told them that “‘seize’ might not have been the correct word.”
Not just Barbados.
The German newspaper Der Tagesspiegel reported Friday that a delivery of protective equipment ordered by the State of Berlin in China for the coronavirus had reportedly been intercepted and diverted to the United States. Berlin’s Interior Minister Andreas GeiseI said they considered the confiscation to be “an act of modern piracy” and urged Germany’s government to demand that Washington play by international trade rules.

“This is not how you deal with transatlantic partners,” Geisel said. There shouldn’t be “wild west methods,” he said, even in times of global crisis.

That same day, the Guardian reported that a French official from a hard-hit region also complained about having a shipment of medical masks from Shanghai diverted to the U.S. after being outbid by “Americans.” “They offered three times the price and they proposed to pay upfront. I can’t do that. I’m spending taxpayers’ money and I can only pay on delivery having checked the quality,” the Guardian said Valérie Pécresse, the influential president of the Île-de-France region, told BFMTV. “So we were caught out.”

I wonder who the fall guy will be within the FBI - SOMEBODY has to be held responsible for uncovering this scam in an unauthorized manner, then leaking their findings to the press.

Damn Frogs need to learn how to drop trou, bend over and spread 'em like Murka does under PINO's expert guidance.

As feds play ‘backup,’ states take unorthodox steps to compete in cutthroat global market for coronavirus supplies - The Washington Post
Rushing to stave off a shortage of medical-grade protective gear to combat the spread of the coronavirus, Minnesota officials leaned on a local company’s global connections to airlift a cache of N95 masks from a Chinese factory back to the state for delivery this week.

Washington state purchased 750,000 cotton swabs for coronavirus tests, taking a risk because the product located by officials has not yet been approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The state is also betting that a Seattle-based outdoor gear company, known for its backpacks and parkas, can reconfigure its operations to produce N95 respirators.

And California, acting as a “nation state” in the words of the governor, began buying 200 million masks per month to shore up supplies in that state and, potentially, across the country.

Elsewhere, some governors and lawmakers have watched in disbelief as they have sought to close deals on precious supplies, only to have the federal government swoop in to preempt the arrangements.

Officials in one state are so worried about this possibility that they are considering dispatching local police or even the National Guard to greet two chartered FedEx planes scheduled to arrive in the next week with millions of masks from China, according to people familiar with the planning. These people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, asked that their state not be identified to avoid flagging federal officials to their shipment.
No wonder some states are joining together. What passes as "leadership" from the Federal Government has been totally losing.

This certainly isn't a case of a manufacturer prioritizing federal orders as there was no manufacturer involved.

Unfortunately, with the virus we can't march on Washington with tar and feathers.

Yeah, I'm not really following.

From the article:
The Los Angeles Times first reported on Sunday that the FBI had uncovered the scam, which has been traced back to a broker in Australia and a supplier in Kuwait. The investigators discovered the scam because they were looking into whether the supply could be intercepted by the federal government through the Defense Production Act.

The Service Employees International Union-United Healthcare Workers West (known as SEIU) promised at the end of March that it would make the millions of masks available, as government agencies and hospitals planned to purchase some of the supply. But as the FBI investigated, it became apparent that the union had been duped, although no financial transaction had yet been made.

The FBI outed themselves as intercepting PPE shipments destined for places in the US that need them, and diverting them to the federal government, when they announced this scam.

It's the right link. Yes, it's about a scam--but note that the feds discovered the scam because they were trying to steal the supplies and discovered they didn't exist.

The Defense Production Act lets him tell companies to make stuff (although he's not been doing much of it because he's doing his usual crap of not agreeing to try to get a better price, not realizing that they have no reason to play his childish games), it doesn't let him simply steal stuff that already exists.
