Candomblé survived centuries of slavery, but the quasi-respectability it has gained in recent decades is now under concentrated attack from radical Evangelical Christians, a growing force in Catholic Brazil, who regard it as the devil’s work and its priests and priestesses as little more than neighborhood witches.

As usual, a nice syncretic religion is born out of strict dogmatic religion, then the inheritors of the strict dogmatic religion come in to persecute them.

I hope they continue to fight back and win.

Candomblé and its sister Umbanda are both creepy polytheistic mumbojumbo that sometimes get people killed with stuff like "psychic healing" and "psychic surgery". Not to mention they sacrifice chickens. So their fight with the Christians is like "Hitler vs Stalin" you don't know who's worse.

I hope both sides, representatives of bullshit-scented brainwash, lose.

I think we can honestly say that evangelicals would be worse.

In America, they have convinced a nation to start wars against Islam that has resulted in hundreds of thousands of dead civilians, and promoted mass torture as a national policy. In Africa, they are setting children on fire for "witchcraft."

All things considered, I think we can say that some forms of bullshit are inherently more harmful than others.
