Alpha God: The Psychology of Religious Violence and Oppression (with Dr. Hector Garcia)

Clinical psychologist Dr. Hector Garcia joins Seth Andrews for a candid (and potentially controversial) discussion about the origins and characteristics of man-made gods and the violence which so often defines them.

It seems obvious to critics of religion that Yahweh is a projection of the male animal brain urge to dominate. I mean, when your God's bad behavior and yours look exactly alike, that should be clue number one. But Dr. Garcia lays it all out in detailed and eye opening discussion of the God created in the heads of posturing apes.

And it's not just a reflection or projection of ape posturing and violence of males, but a deeply ingrained cultural reinforcement of ape posturing and violence of males. It's a vicious cycle that serves as dead weight on the progress of humanity.

Even though we as a species have a profound capacity to shape our own nature, we will never evolve past dick waving monkey violence as long as such religions continue to infect and corrupt human culture.

The Aramaic god was crafted in the image of human male, not the other way around.

God is the ultimate alpha male. The believer is buddies with god to whom he bows, bowing to no other. It is symbolic.

The plethora gods, being constructs of human imagination, are reflections of the psychologies of the believers who cooked them up in their own minds.

Good video, thanks for the link Angry Floof! That was my introduction to Seth Andrews as well, whom I really enjoyed also. He was very intelligent and articulate in his thoughts.
