America is the deadliest place in the world to give birth

But at least you're number one. If you improve things, you might end up only being in second place for maternal deaths? You know what another word for second place is? Loser, that's what.

You got the joke wrong. The correct joke is "Second place is the first loser."

Underseer, I hate to be pedantic, but you missed an important key word in that article.

The US is the deadliest place in the DEVELOPED world to give birth.
Accuracy.

And I hate to sound like LP, but aren't success births counted differently in the US than in the EU?

This is about maternal death. I see no reason to think there's a statistical problem here.

What there is here is an obsession on the fetus because of the risk of malpractice suits. When the shit hits the fan this translates into a greater risk for the woman.

One of the biggest problems is that we don't have UHC in the US. This means that many women in the US never receive any prenatal care, so by the time they go into labor, any high risk issues haven't been determined. I'm sure that's at least part of the problem.
