I love it...the xtians have got their right-wing knickers in a twist over a pop song....

Ariana Grande has been the talk of the town recently as fans await the release of her new album, “Sweetener.” Additionally, her quick engagement to comedian Pete Davidson has had many talking–both negatively and positively–about her life.
It seems that now, many people online with conservative religious beliefs are going all “Anti-Ariana” thanks to her new single, “God Is A Woman.” The song is a female empowerment anthem, giving women power (the ultimate power) and allowing young girls to feel as though they are more than just a man’s property/girlfriend.

Along with the single itself, Grande released a powerful music video, showcasing the glass ceiling that she–and so many other women–have shattered over the last few years. It’s no secret that we are living in a time where women are on the rise, fighting for their rights and equality more so than ever. It’s the perfect time for Grande to release this kind of record–as almost an anthem of today’s culture.

However, there are those online who are absolutely furious and triggered over Grande’s new single–and, for many, it’s no surprise. Conservative Christians have long stirred the pot on social media, calling for the abolishment of many female rights (such as the right to choose). Now, they’re calling Ariana Grande out for making a “mockery” of God and religion altogether.

Religion is inherently mockable, and these people need grow the fuck up.

This makes no sense. If God were a woman, then why is the universe designed in such a way that jars are so hard to open?

What makes her detractors so sure that God is male? Have they tested God's genes? Did they see God's genitalia? If we are made in God's likeness, then the resemblance ought to go the other way also.

Highbrow theologians will maintain that God does not have any physical appearance, but they don't seem to be in much of a hurry to notify the rank-and-file of believers.

For my part, I will note Fragments of Xenophanes - Wikisource, the free online library from some 2,500 years ago:
Fragment 11
Homer and Hesiod have ascribed to the gods all things that are a shame and a disgrace among mortals, stealings and adulteries and deceivings of one another.

Fragment 12
Since they have uttered many lawless deeds of the gods, stealings and adulteries and deceivings of one another.

Fragment 14
But mortals deem that the gods are begotten as they are, and have clothes like theirs, and voice and form.

Fragment 15
Yes, and if oxen and horses or lions had hands, and could paint with their hands, and produce works of art as men do, horses would paint the forms of the gods like horses, and oxen like oxen, and make their bodies in the image of their several kinds.

Fragment 16
The Ethiopians make their gods black and snub-nosed; the Thracians say theirs have blue eyes and red hair.

Considering how sexist the Christian god is, there is no doubt that the Christian god is a male. What has the Christian god ever done for women? Sure Jesus had a few female friends, but his father was a real asshole when it came to how he treated women. And, then there's that prick Paul. He obviously got his orders from a male god.

Well, it's certainly true that god(dess) is female.

I was an atheist for years & years before I began to double down on the absurdity of a god having a gender. Now, to me, it is one of the most obvious signs of religious fiction. C'mon, Xters, your divine creator and outside-of-time miraculous being identifies with the male gender?????? Right. Sign me up. A story like that has gotta be true.

I agree. Too much in human likeness to be taken seriously.

Returning to Xenophanes,
Fragment 23
One god, the greatest among gods and men, neither in form like unto mortals nor in thought . . . .

Fragment 24
He sees all over, thinks all over, and hears all over.

Fragment 25
But without toil he swayeth all things by the thought of his mind.

Fragment 26
And he abideth ever in the selfsame place, moving not at all; nor doth it befit him to go about now hither now thither.
Xian apologists often insist that that is what the Xian God is like -- genderless and otherwise very unlike humanity. But they don't try very hard to communicate it to their rank-and-file.
