Age range: Grades 1 to 3
Each student needs:
One dollar bill
Black pen or marker
Instructions:
1. Put dollar bill on desk, George side up.
2. Locate words 'FEDERAL RESERVE NOTE' at top of bill.
3. In FEDERAL, use pen to darken in letters 2,3,4,5,and 7.
4. In RESERVE, darken in letters 1,2,3,4,6, and 7.
5. In NOTE, darken in letters 1,2, and 4.
6. Locate words ONE DOLLAR at bottom of bill.
7. In ONE, darken in letters 2 and 3.
8. In DOLLAR, darken in letters 3, 4, and 5.
9. You are done!
Note to teacher:
Help students sound out the message they have created. Phonics: r-dominated a, long o, schwa.
Discuss. Who can make a sound effect for the message?
Writing Prompt: Sunny the Bunny Makes Funny Money.
Our Community: Encourage students to put their bills in the collection plate at church.
