Attack on Dallas Police Station.

Brown did say police negotiators have been talking to the suspect via cell phone, and the man told them the police "took his child" and "accused him of being a terrorist."

"I'm not a terrorist, but I'll show you what a terrorist is!"

Guy was killed by the sniper.

Several bombs set off by the cops.

His van left to burn.

Turns out he's a (probably) mentally ill man who lost a custody battle with his girlfriend over their son.

He wanted to marry her. She, being smart, did not agree.

His mother believes he was schizophrenic, though he was never diagnosed. His father - apparently no longer together with the wife/mother - says it was the fault of the justice system that his son lost his child.

Despite the fact that at least one person thinks the son was mentally ill.

Looks like the nut doesn't fall too far from the tree.

Given his behavior it's obvious he shouldn't have had custody of a child. It sounds like the courts did the right thing in denying him custody. I can't imagine what the father is thinking.

Exactly.

He is not thinking anything because he is dead.

Loren seems to be talking about the dead man's father, who appears to be alive (unless he died in the past few hours for some reason).
