Berkeley "liberals" contra free speech

Breitbart News May Boot Milo Yiannopoulos Over Sex Comments | Fox Business

I had heard of these comments long ago. I wonder why all of sudden it's a dealbreaker.

His original comments were ambiguous and he has clarified his position so I'm not sure why people are getting into such a froth about him.

Probably because he's a massive schmuck. It's entirely possible certain groups have been looking for a pretext to disassociate themselves with Milo for a long time now and finally found one.

This is a bit of a tangent, but I wonder if it is more likely to cause damage if a priest has sex with a 14 year old straight boy compared to a gay boy.

Maybe Milo was partially physically wanting what happened but not really ready for the emotional aftermath. Possibly he has attachment problems from that predation - or maybe he is just a bad seed and it is unrelated.

At any rate a 14 year old straight kid would be even more conflicted. not attracted or even repulsed by the man and maybe freaked out that he was getting an erection and later needlessly question his straight sexuality.

Milo seemed not to care about what the priest was doing to other boys and how it would affect them.

Think of how boys of that age feel about sex. Most would be quite willing to have sex if it was available--no need for a pervert to force matters. The harm comes mostly from the manipulation needed to keep the pervert from being exposed. (This is not to say it should be legal--that's awfully young to give informed consent.)

The same reason HRC was openly against gay marriage as an institution but nobody cared until her latest presidential bid I would presume. Not to continue bagging on Hillary but it was the most immediate comparison I could think of.

I don't see much of a comparison, just your :hobbyhorse:

The comparison is obvious. Nobody thinks much of certain comments until sometimes years down the line when it can be used to potentially ruin them. Forgive me if I wasn't clear on that.

Those in control of the flow of information and how it's stated were able to use prior comments to their advantage. To put it another way, Milo is a rat in a cage full of other, bigger and burlier rats.

You're trying to force a comparison, but there is none. Her prior statements were not politically controversial at the time. Everyone knows that, except maybe you. Obama was also against gay marriage. It wasn't a scandal for him later. Just like her statements weren't a scandal during the campaign. It didn't cost her anything and it was never a major news item. You are the only person I ever heard bring it up.

Some of the left desires democracy and some of it doesn't. What connects the left is tribal hostility to its outgroup.

Some of the left has hostility to its outgroup and some of it doesn't.

They were a deal breaker because most people hadn't heard them before.

Most people didn't know follow the Gamergate controversy. Most people didn't follow @Nero on Twitter. Most people don't read Breitbart articles. Most people never heard of Milo Yiannopoulis until he was banned from Twitter for harassing Leslie Jones, and even then the name most people recognized was Jones'. Most people didn't know or care about Milo's opinions until the riot at Berkeley.

The Berkeley incident brought him to the attention of prominent right-wingers who thought they could capitalize on his 'free speech' trolling of liberals and feminists. It bit them in the ass when they found out that Milo has freely speechified about his approval of men having sex with 13 year old boys, and they faced the choice of either disinviting him or hosting a pedo rape apologist at their little get-together.
