Having the government pay somewhat more for US made materials and products means that the money spent on those things becomes American income that is taxed and spent. When the US government spends money on foreign goods, those dollars leave America and never buy a Breakfast Special at Sandy's Diner.
A lot of the "low price is the only metric!" people fail to account for the economic power of the American worker's spending in the equation.
