BLM doubles down on the crazy

According to the OP linked article, it is the Black Student Union (not BLM) who is demanding the dismantling of the campus police force at the University of California, Irvine. That is a far cry from the BLM demanding no police for the black community.

You mean Loren got it wrong????

Imagine that.

I never understood campus police forces.

You are not the only one. It's a common call on campuses to either get rid of or restrict the powers of campus police. It is nothing new and it is a call that comes from students regardless of race, creed, color, or favorite game system.

In some ways I can see as we are a campus of 50,000 people, so it would be overwhelming for the city to take on and patrol a untaxed area of the city.. hell, we need to get rid of local police departments and get centralized state-level ones. If I could trust such power..

Not a bad idea. I'd be inclined to hold it in abeyance until such time as America's gun epidemic is under control and we have a robust mental healthcare program across the nation.
Or at least get something approaching 1% of the student population's support before making demands.

If all you need is one percent, poll fraternity row. You'll find no love for the campus police there.

What would that accomplish? It would only transfer LE duties to the local city or county police force. You'd have to make APD a bit bigger if you abolished Georgia Tech and Georgia State police departments.

The call to abolish police is hardly contained to that campus, or colleges in general. See this article from the left-wing Nation magazine.
Abolish the Police. Instead, Let’s Have Full Social, Economic, and Political Equality.
Mychal Denzel Smith specifically references #BLM movement in his screed.

Ask the drunk rich white kids who I usually hear bemoaning the injustices heaped upon them by the "rent-a-cops."

I have not said that I want to abolish anything. So why ask me?

So start a thread on that. Oh, I forgot, you don't start threads, you hijack them.

Ask the drunk rich white kids who I usually hear bemoaning
You hang around many "drunk rich white kids", do you?
And this thread was started because a black student group demanded the police department be disbanded for explicitly racial reasons.
the injustices heaped upon them by the "rent-a-cops."
Actually university police departments (as opposed to mere security) have actual cops, not rent-a-cops.

I am absolutely opposed to campus police. College students are ADULTS with all the rights and obligations of adults. Campuses should not have their own cops.

Well, if there's thousands of people in in a small area with different needs and issues from society at large, it makes sense to have a dedicated polic office catering to them.

The relevant part of your linked article reads
I’ll continue saying it, because if we’re satisfied with charges and potential prison time, we’ve missed the entire point of #BlackLivesMatter. This isn’t about getting “better” police, ones who exercise discretion in using force, but getting away from “needing” police altogether.
. That is a far cry from saying the BLM is advocating the elimination of the police. The author is making an argument that this nation should work towards eliminating the need for the police. That is certainly a laudable goal, regardless of one's view of its viability.

You hang around many "drunk rich white kids", do you?
Actually I have in my lifetime hung around drunk rich white kids, having gone to more than one college of my choice, having lived in a college town, and now living in a beach town with a pretty lively bar scene. Not to mention working with a new initiative in my state to expand UU campus ministries, so I have been visiting college campuses on weekends and talking to students drunk and sober.

No, this thread was started because Loren can not distinguish BLM from the BSU. But I guess they both look alike to him.

I never said otherwise. I was quoting those drunk students I referenced before. Do try to keep up.
