I had the same initial thought as Malintent, that the preference for larger breast is just an incidental byproduct of the advantage of being visually sensitive the difference between pre-pubescent and post-pubescent breasts.
Although, breast size is also correlated with overall body fat and thus signals a women that is well fed and able to supply a fetus lots of nutrients.
