FORT WORTH, Texas — Bowie knives, swords, spears, daggers and machetes, all of which have been illegal to carry in Texas for years, will be back on the streets beginning Sept. 1.
Any knife sporting a blade longer than 5 { inches will now be legal to carry in the state — a few restricted areas remain — under a plan approved by Texas lawmakers and signed into law by Republican Gov. Greg Abbott.
....

This year's law repeals the state's 1871 ban on Bowie knives and removes other long knives — such as dirks, poniards and stilettos — from the prohibited weapons list in the state's penal code.
But just because the law is changing, that doesn't mean Texans will suddenly start walking down the street strapped down with swords and Bowie knives.

Thank you, Texas Republicans! I feel safer already! The wisdom of the Texas conservatives is so majestic and wonderous.

Excellent. Just in time for the Highlander remake.

Hello, Hollywood money!

Why would it be illegal to carry a long blade? You can kill or injure someone just as easily with a baseball bat, shovel, hammer, stick or pipe. Are 2x4s illegal?
Isn't it odd that anyone may walk down the street with a pair of six-guns strapped to his waist and carrying an axe, but a six inch hunting knife is only now legal?

The ban on spears is the one that gets me. Are people just going to walk around with halberds now?

I hope not. If they do, anyone concerned about their own safety will need to walk around in full plate armour and that's just not a fun thing to do during a Texas summer.

People in the Society for Creative Anachronism already do. And they think it's fun to do so in a Texas summer.

Texas is part of the Kingdom of Ansteorra. And gun nuts NEVER bother them.

Well, I did not know that. No worries about the halberds then.

Who buys this crap anyway?

People who have an issue with plastic soda bottle and watermelon;

It seems like a useless piece of equipment. The demo also shows the guy getting quite excited about hitting a door with the spear.

Baffling.

On a more serious note, an acquaintance of mine went boar hunting (with spears) in Texas.

People like my boyfriend. CUZ IT LOOKS KEWL GAIZ. Who cares that its made out of shit materials with equally shit craftsmanship. Serrated edges on everythinggggg!

Used to be a really popular catalog on the sub... Guys would spend the patrol planning what they'd buy with reenlistment bonuses or the money left over from patrol paychecks... Three to ten different versions of the order form by the time we pulled in. They'd be after knives, we'd screen BLADE, they'd want swords, we watched RAMBO they wanted knives again...

I went with Museum Replicas, LTD, on the other hand, and have a Halberd that'll cut through a fridge...
