Bump on the Article 11 and 13 topic

Hopefully this causes such a fuck-up that they'll see the need to fix it.

Actions have ripple down consequences, and sometimes, we don’t like the consequences. Maybe a consequence will be less preferable for some. I’m probably missing something, but the wrong is definitely escaping me. Smaller news groups will find it more difficult to compete? Okay, and?

Oops--the EU has now both required and banned filters.

And note that Spain has already tried the link tax of Article 11--and very quickly relented when Google responded by not linking the stuff that would trigger it. Rather than revenue the sites saw their readership (and thus ad revenue) crash. It takes a special kind of stupid to try a bigger version of something already shown to be a disaster.

Discussion of this issue has been started in the admin section.

I'd say the world should just block any EU country that implements these rules and let their governments take all the shit their citizens give them.

This is going to be such a disaster that they'll have to amend it and make generous exception. Otherwise it would essentially be winding back the internet to before geocities. Remember geocities?

Until they do, though, a lot of small web companies will have gone out of business, while for Google and co. it's but a minor nuisance.
