I know this is primarily a US board, but I know I'm not the only Canadian here. What do my fellow Canadians here think of the Federal election that has now been called?

Will Trudeau hang onto power or will he be displaced by the conservatives. Will the NDP or the Greens play any significant role? Who are you voting for?

I voted Green last time, because I was fine with either Harper still around or Trudeau in office, and the Greens lined up best with my policy preferences. This time I'm not sure.

Trudeau's had some scandals since he came into power, which have hurt his numbers in polls, but little has changed from a street's eye view. We've got marijuana legalized (I support), which I don't think would have happened had the Conservatives stayed in power. But what else would have been different? Trudeau's picking his cabinet by identity politics was disgusting, and his "we like to say people kind" line was embarrassing, and the nepotism that got him his name recognition and won him the election was distasteful, but he's no Trump. And he's no Mulrooney or Doug Ford. He's not a really threat to the country nor much that I hold dear. Scheer is a bit of an unknown entity. He's religious, but has said he won't re-open key issues like abortion etc, and that they are settled law. But I've always been ideologically opposed to and suspicious of the conservatives. The NDP and Greens look to be spoilers at this point. I don't think either of them can win the Federal election, but if I can't decide between Trudeau and Scheer, I may vote for one of them. They both look better to me than both Scheer and Trudeau. My riding is likely to go Liberal no matter what I vote. Maybe I'll just stay home.

The election is in late October, 2019 btw. Its just next month. Quite a contrast to the US campainging seasons. And so much less politically charged. Scheer wouldn't be the end of the world. Neither would more Trudeau. *shrug* Maybe the debate will help me decide if I care to vote for either of them against the other. Maybe somebody here will.

Trudeau's scandals are kind of weak. Most countries would wish that those counted as their leader's scandals. It seems like most of the country joins me in shrugging them off and not particularly giving a shit. I'm going to vote Liberal again simply because he's been doing a good job for the most part and doesn't deserve to be fired.

Also because Sheer doesn't believe in fucking dinosaurs - not to the extent that there's a reason to assume there's any risk of him having his creationist beliefs influence policy but ... still. Also, I don't know if he doesn't actually believe in dinosaurs, but I heard that somewhere and don't care enough about Andrew Sheer to bother taking two minutes for a google search on the matter. That's actually another mark against him. If a guy is so underwhelming that I can't even be bothered to perform basic verification for odd claims about him, I have no interest in seeing him run the country.

Singh is kind of the most pathetic leader ever. It's actually at the point that I'll be kind of miffed if Trudeau doesn't offer him a cabinet position or a plum ambassadorship after the election because there is nobody else who has done as much to get the man re-elected. It's nice to only have one opponent.

Unless Trudeau messes up the campaign, he should get re-elected easily. The support for the Liberals and Conservatives is about even, but the areas where the support is give the Liberals a clear advantage in seats.

I'm really looking forward to a positive campaign by all parties where the leaders present clear and concise versions of their respective platforms and engage in spirited and polite debate about their differences in policies. Just kidding. It'll be all about how Sheer is a dangerous ideologue who'll take social policy back decades and outlaw abortion and homosexuality while Trudeau is basically an underworld kingpin who'd be a cartoonish supervillian if he wasn't too weak and cowardly to actually be one.

I should run. All I need to do is promise the greater Toronto area a Stanley Cup and my party would get 1/3 of the ridings automatically. If I say I like oil, that'd win me Alberta and I can call it a day.

Dude, we're voting for a Prime Minister, not a deity. How are you planning on having the Leafs win the Stanley Cup?

Two words, "defensive trap". It snoozed New Jersey to a couple Cups, it'l work for Toronto too. That is why I'll be naming Scotty Bowman as my Vice Prime Minister. His job will be, only be, getting Toronto to win the Cup. Now, that might require moving the Maple Leafs somewhere else, but it worked for the Nordiques.

What? There is no such thing as a Vice Prime Minister?

There is now! Don Cherry will be the Minister of Defense and Ron McClean will be our spokesperson.

Trudeau really has been pretty uneventful. We've chugged along pretty much the same as we did under Harper. I've yet to see a big reason to lose him or to keep him. I may not vote. I'm ambivalent.

Anybody want to buy my vote? lol I'll sell it for a timbit.

On second thought, I will vote for whoever builds a wall to keep the illegals out from the USA, and gets Trump to pay for the wall. We need to keep those Americans out of reach of our poutine.

You mean Somali migrants that are subject to being deported from US because of their criminal records?
Somalis With Criminal Records Are Heading for Canadian Border
We need to keep those Americans out of reach of our poutine.
I guess you don't mean the Somalis after all ...
I could go for some poutine though.
