This morning Joe Scarborough related James Carville’s “radical new tactic for Democrats”; roll over and play dead.
Of all the ideas I’ve heard, that one might be the most effective.
Basically, stop opposing all this bullshit, take themselves off the field. Let the fascists fuck the electorate in the ass until they can’t sit down.
He thinks that will allow Dems to make sure the blame falls where it belongs. And that’s the part that gives me pause. I don’t know if further ceding the narrative will get Democrats off the hook; if there’s one thing the scumbag party is good at, it’s causing pain and blaming Dems for it.
There is little doubt that giving them enough rope to hang themselves is a viable option. But will they hang themselves, or hang the democrats with all that rope?
Thoughts?

I hate it, but the problem with much else... Trump and the GOP won in 2024. Of course, it gets a little difficult when Trump is pushing boundaries that haven't been pushed in generations (or suggests committing war crimes or effectively stealing mineral rights (?) of an ally in need), but overall... we knew we were getting a shit show because America, in plurality of popular vote (for a first) and solid majority of electoral college votes, voted for the shit show.

We really don't have much left to do. Heck, Trump's governance via DOGE has been so off the wall, so illegal, legal challenges are difficult because the target isn't specified or remotely clear.

I don't like it. I think the public will not respond well with a party watching in the wings and doing nothing. Us democrats voted for the dems to do their job, not sit on their hands.

Carville also predicted that Kamala would win. He is a 90's strategist that is out of touch with the new paradigm.

Sitting in the weeds will only make things much worse. Doing everything available to stop the chaos is the right approach IMO.

He and Rove should ride off into the sunset together. Both useless, trying to stay relavent, political strategists. The 90s was 30 years ago.

Good point (maybe). He has sounded that way to me for a lot of years now. And remembering who he is married to for over 30 years doesn't inspire any confidence in his pronouncements.

I am REALLY not sure. There are benefits to keeping dry powder.

So the choice posing a dilemma is, as I see it:

a) fighting like hell and predictably losing, which gives democrats the "loser" label for pissing in the wind.
"They fight like hell and make a lot of noise, but they can't win".
~or~
b) playing possum, which gives then the "do-nothing" label.
"They don't care about us and don't even try to stop it when we we're getting fucked in the ass"

On the hypothetical upside, we have, for the first option "they fight heroically against impossible odds to save us from the ass-fucking we brought upon ourselves, so lets put them back in power", and for the second one "The 'possum wasn't the one breaking all our stuff and fucking us in the ass, so let's kick out the ass fuckers and give the 'possums a chance"?

Not much of an upside either way, IMO.
He and Rove should ride off into the sunset together.
That's an easy call. Unfortunately it doesn't help the situation on the ground.

My actual sense is that right now, ginning up outrage is probably the best tactic to engage in. Pointed mockery and loud pearl clutching.

Depending on the insurrectionists' level of success in totally perverting Congress, though, it may or may not be a good idea to persevere with the outrage. It can and may end up producing little more than a well-earned tidal wave of counter-mockery. Outrage minimizes the discernible difference between L and R chaos; at some point dems will need to emerge as the calm, cool and collected rational thinkers in the room who can right the ship.

Listening to fuckwits like Carville, Bill Maher or Morning Joe is always, always ALWAYS a big mistake. None of those idiots ever grew beyond the 90s and I fucking guarantee they all believe quoting Wayne's World is still "edgy".

The Dems could filibuster the upcoming spending bills. But that only shuts down the government, which is what's happening anyway.

That should be the message.

"We are filibustering"

Gop: "But if you do that, you'll shut down the government!"

"Cunt, isn't that what you want?".

So, granting all that, what next? There is still the choice to appear to be struggling in futility against oppression, or going dark.
Filibustering is about the same as playing possum. But maybe more entertaining, depending on whether they make it a show or just mail it in.

My impression is that through negligent inaction and just plain stupid action, the Democratic party has willfully rolled over and taken it up the 'chute since Merrick Garland was blocked by Droopy O'Connell.

The inactions or inability of the Democrats to stop tyrannical action be as they may, the people voted for Shit Show. Not a majority, but enough. We all knew what this meant.

I think he's overthinking as usual. Dems can't really do anything anyway, except protest. However, protest is necessary, more importantly in continually reminding everyone who is responsible for the pain being caused.

People aren't going to care until it hurts. Trump is hustling America to a recession with broader capital investment likely to plunge with his flirting with tariffs on metals.

The wait and watch approach that hopes the Grifter Old Party burns to ground amidst anarchy and chaos is out of step with people who will be severely affected and may never recover.

Carville was a Clinton acolyte, which IMO was republican lite.

Dems need to be creating a sane and rationale plan and shouting from the ground up.

Bernie has been doing it, but there appears to be no clear leader or direction, just reaction.

I agree, but it's already hurting some of them. Carville wants to wait till Trumps approval tanks before they pounce, but I think they should keep it up like they are now. Keep Buttigieg going on Fox.

The new GOP budget cuts $800 billion from the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. Which oversees Medicad.

I have a trailer trash relative who is cheering all this on, while getting gov assistance for his 7 kids with 4 women. Should be interesting to watch him cut off. I feel bad for the kids, but I always have.

This so much reminds me of some relatives I have.
I don't talk politics with them much anymore.

The reason the Tea Party were so successful in 2010 was largely because they put the work in starting Jan 20th, 2009. Sure that movement was asteoturfed as fuck, but the advantage you lot have is that it isn't difficult to find people who hate and despise Trump and Musk.

Put the work in now, and it will pay off in the mid terms. Gingrich and McConnell those cunts - fair is fair.

I think you misspelled “October 8, 1998, when the Republican-controlled House of Representatives voted to authorize a broad impeachment inquiry following the release of the Starr Report”

They’ve been working that same mule ever since.

Maybe. Or maybe the 2042 midterms if there are any. It takes a long time to play a long game.
