Archaeologists proved that X-rated graffiti transcends time after tracing the origins of the infamous Cerne Abbas Giant — an NSFW chalk carving of a naked man in the UK — all the way back to the 10th century. The giant was probably created sometime between these dates, with the year AD 980 falling in the middle of that window. In theory, the giant might be older, because the chalking has been replaced several times. But the soil data suggests not. The oldest date for the soil is AD 700 to 1100. “[The giant] cannot be older than that,” says Allen.

This is on a wall in a living room of a house in Pompei. It obviously wasn’t considered rude or pornagraphic by the Romans. It was a symbol of fertility and prosperity.

Exactly. The show said when Pompeii was excavated numberous penis symbols were found in homes and on shops.
